Michael Guthrie was charged with public intoxication after he was reported to police by Thorntons for having a child in his truck and looking to be under the influence of drugs. He was later found at Goodwill to be jittery and admitted to police that he uses “ICE”.
On May 26th, officers were dispatched to
Thorntons Gas Station in response to a male in a black truck who appeared under the influence of drugs. The complainant said that there was a child in the truck and gave the police the direction the truck was traveling in when it left the gas station and the license plate number. Police found the truck at a Goodwill with the defendant, Michael Guthrie, standing outside of the vehicle appearing agitated and jittery.
He kept waving his arms around in a wild manner and pacing when the police made contact. They reported that he spoke very fast and in a slurred manner. They also described red scars throughout his body. After he told police that he uses “ice” they determined that he was a harm to himself and the child in the passenger seat so he was placed into custody.
Guthrie requested to go to a hospital so he was transported to Summit Hospital where he refused to receive medical attention and left against medical advice. Police contacted the mother of the child who responded to the hospital as well as DCS for a follow up to the investigation.
