All San Diego teachers are being required to attend a “white privilege” training in which they are told, “you are racist” and must commit to becoming “anti-racist” in the classroom, according to a report.

During the training, the teachers are taught about the teachings of “White Fragility” author Robin DiAngelo and “Be Antiracist: A Journal for Awareness, Reflection and Action” author Ibram X. Kend.

After watching clips of the two authors, the trainers tell the group that “you are racist” and “upholding racist ideas, structures, and policies.”

The group is challenged to become “anti-racist” in the classroom as well as “confront and examine [their] white privilege” and “teach others to see their privilege,” according to the report.
Earlier this year, the district underwent a major overhaul to its grading system as a part of a larger effort to combat racial discrimination, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Data had revealed that there were significant disparities between the percentage of white and minority students who received D or F grades in the first semester of the last school year.

In an effort to prevent discrimination, the school board voted to eliminate non-academic factors like late work and classroom behavior in a student’s grade.

“This is part of our honest reckoning as a school district,” said Richard Barrera, who is the district’s vice president, NBC San Diego reported.

“If we’re actually going to be an anti-racist school district, we have to confront practices like this that have gone on for years and years.”

No job is worth dealing with abuse due to being born a certain race! If I were one of those teachers that they are trying to force into a re-education camp, I would tell them to fuck off and walk off the job! Nobody should have to take that kind of ABUSE! That's right, it is abuse! I hope all the teachers, not just white teachers, but ALL TEACHERS walk away from this institution and never look back! NONE of us ever asked to be born, much less asked to be born a particular race! I am glad I didn't become a teacher or professor because schools, colleges, and universities are not about learning, but instead about indoctrination and the creation of division! They are about turning a hefty profit at the cost of students and faculty. In fact, schools no longer have students, they have customers! Customers paying a premium price for a degree not even worth the paper it is printed on! And these customers often because long-term debtors, and for what, to enter a workforce where they will be exploited and abused.

Crap like this is exactly the reason my wife left the education field. She holds a doctorate and was a professor for 17 years, but it wasn't worth putting up with that shit anymore. Now she works for a tech company making almost twice what she was making teaching and she's much happier. She does miss summer off though.

They do this kind of donkey brained horseshit but then continue to sugarcoat if not flat out lie when teaching history. Bet it isn't taught in any school in that city that Christopher Colombus and all the other eurotrash explorers of the era were child murdering slave traders. I bet the standardized tests aren't up to snuff either when it comes to questions being biased towards whites/suburban dwellers.

Gavin Newsome put em up to this no doubt.

I refuse to be made to feel guilty for the colour of my skin.
I would never do it to a person of colour.

Exercises like this dumbfuckery will only take people who were not doing anything to anyone and infuriate them.
This is not how you fix it.
This only angers and marginalizes people for no good reason.

You want racism gone?
Remember we are all one race...human.
When aliens invade they won't give a damn.
All they will see is light meat and dark meat all from the same damn bird.

Yes. Organic Vegan fare grown by indigenous farmers.

I bought organic broccoli at the grocery store a few days ago

Finnish language food labeling is a bitch and somehow they managed to RUN THE FUCK OUT of real, frozen broccoli, and it was the only broccoli I saw in the whole store.

It was an accidental purchase. I didn't realize I'd bought something stupid until I got it home and looked closer at the sticker.

I wasted money :( . Like dropping 1 euro on the ground and not realizing it, and it's gone.

(off-topic warning, small rabbit hole incoming)

@Blizzard, I would've thought Finland would have plenty of delicious offerings in the cabbage family. And beets :)

You would think.

But there is a culture here of working people giving no fucks about the quality of the work they do, unless they are a small, self-employed type of business. So, shit runs out, and they give no fucks.

Back when I was drinking Mountain Dew, the store I was going to at the time was out for close to 2 months. There was an empty space for it on the shelf the whole time. I finally complained. They had it back in stock a week later. As you can see, not a supply problem. An employee problem.

The store chain I usually shop at has now stopped carrying the soup powder I was using to make a kind of Macaroni and Cheese. A different store chain stopped carrying a inexpensive whole wheat ramen that was unique to that chain - just the expensive whole wheat ramen is available, now! Apparently, good bowel health is only allowed for people who like to waste money. Years ago that same chain stopped carrying the best-tasting chicken they ever had, everyone was constantly buying it out. I bet you it was causing the sales of their more expensive chicken breasts to go down, so they deep-sixed it. Unsalted butter is priced at exactly 2x the price of regular salted at all of the grocery stores and there is no production reason for this.

Finland does not know the meaning of the word capitalism. It is mostly a weird form of cartelism where the businesses share customers and coordinate their business practices to price gouge as hard as they can.

So whatever is supposed to be there - lettuce - red cabbage - frozen broccoli and cauliflower (they were both out the other day) - may not be there when you go. Sometimes the thing you want is gone forever. Sometimes it's just employees who give not one fuck.

Sure. I enjoy having my moral and societal lectures coming from someone like this:

angry-woman-pointing-camera_23-2147808143.jpg

This is clearly somebody who is intelligent; well-versed; has empathy for anyone and everyone in his/her life and all who are not; has an extremely diverse collection of friends and associates from so many different backgrounds; and is rigorously and academically unbiased when talking about history, politics, religion, society, philosophy, and their three cats with an overflowing and neglected litter box.

It's somewhat campy that they pointed out that 100% of the presidents and vice presidents in 2016 and 2017 were white. Sure, they're perhaps the most powerful people in the nation (and world), but they are also only two people. So, using such a demographic statistic to illustrate white privilege is redundant. A better way to express it is to use the factoid that "all American presidents, save for one (#44), have been white men."

While I think some of the points in this lesson are reasonable (i.e. "We meet on stolen land, taken from Indigenous peoples"), and while I fully support confronting and erasing racism in society, I believe the presentation has the wrong emotional emphases. Pointing a finger and telling a room full of people that they are racist, despite having no credentials or evidence to support asserting such to any given (possibly white) person in the room, is basically a baseless personal attack. It's too in-line with the clearly erroneous thought processes of "you're white, so you must be racist" or "all white people are racist"; these arguments are clearly, on their best days, crude caricatures. Disseminating the meaning of racism to white people (who do, often in America and Europe, have less negative stress in relation to their race, racial identity, public and social perception thereof, and socioeconomic effects thereof) can be difficult, but will not be aided by the arbitrary cheapshot of referring to a large swath of people as racist (see the irony in that?).

As well, someone who is not white is also not immune from being racist, nor are they immune from aiding and abetting white supremacy. Case in point, of the four police officers involved with the murder of George Floyd, one was Asian and one was black.

In an effort to prevent discrimination, the school board voted to eliminate non-academic factors like late work and classroom behavior in a student’s grade.

No! The message I get from that is, "Please turn in your assignment by the due date. But if you don't, that's okay too. I'm cool either way." It fails to penalize students for having a perhaps poor work ethic. If there is a unique, uncontrollable situation which makes a student chronically late in turning in assignments, that can and should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. (Also, government or civil interference in the private discourse of teacher and pupil should not be exercised unless as a last resort. Most truancy and/or academic issues should be between the school and teachers, and the student(s) and parent(s)/guardian(s). No laws should be passed to force students to turn in their worksheets on time.) However, students absolutely need to be encouraged to be their best selves, and not encouraged to think "Whatever floats your boat, man. Do what you want." Schools are meant to be places where students can develop not only a strong intellectual constitution, and maybe good grades along the way; but it is up to the student to fully actualize and benefit from the tools given to them to the best of their own ability.

And what is so sad is that folks have to deal with high school-style bullying even years after they left high school! Too many of us went through hell during the time we were kids. We thought and were often told that "it gets better" and we would have more power as adults, but that never happened! We were told that if we worked hard, got good grades, and went to college (or joined the military then went to college), the tables would turn in our favor! We would be doing better than the people who were making our lives a living hell. When will the tables ever turn for people like me? That never seems to happen, no matter how hard you work!

Requiring students to turn homework in on time is racist.

Sounds like religious dogma, not education methods.
Declaring that “reform will not work,” Love argues for “abolitionist teaching,” a pedagogy designed to “remove oppression from its roots.” Whites, according to Love, must make a special effort. During the presentation in San Diego, as part of a list of “abolitionist teacher’s demands,” Love told white attendees that they must undergo “antiracist therapy for White educators” in order to overcome their racism, ignorance, and history of harm. Once they have proven themselves, they can become “co-conspirators” in the campaign for “abolition.”

Now third grade students were instructed to admit the ways they are racist oppressors. In MATH CLASS!
An elementary school in Cupertino, California — a Silicon Valley community with a median home price of $2.3 million — recently forced a class of third-graders to deconstruct their racial identities, then rank themselves according to their "power and privilege."
The principal tried to blame it on a teacher acting independently, but they wouldn't have cared about the class content until the parents demanded changes.

Well whoever's responsible, I call it psychological abuse against children.

Shit on that rogue math teacher.

Shit on that rogue math teacher.
Unfortunately, it's not rogue, it's becoming mainstream in teaching college.
It's important to teach students how to feel about math to the detriment of actual mathematics.
This link is a PDF from the Seattle Public Schools "K-12 Math Ethnic Studies Framework "
Sample:
How is math manipulated to allow
inequality and oppression to persist?
● Who is doing the oppressing?
● Who does the oppression
protect? Who does this
oppression harm?
● Where is there an opportunity to
examine systemic oppression?
● How can math help us
understand the impact of
economic conditions and
systems that contribute to
poverty and slave labor?
● How does math contribute to
how we value natural resources?
On Twitter some grad student was boasting about his work on teaching racism in math etc. I asked if he ever taught math or just taught people how to feel about math and he blocked me in mere seconds. Wuss.
