Records show 29-year-old Samuel Hensley was jailed without bond on Friday, May 22. He faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the toddler’s death.
On Nov. 7, 2025, deputies said they were called to a lot along Highway 64 in Morganton for a reported cardiac arrest. When they arrived, they said they found a 14-month-old boy dead.
After a six-month investigation, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for Samuel Hensley, and he was arrested on Thursday, May 21.
Authorities have not said what Hensley’s relationship to the boy was, and the child’s name and cause of death have not been released.
