A RUSSIAN woman faces up to 15 years in jail after being charged with burning her mother-in-law to death in a bath of scalding water.

The unnamed mum-of-three, 39, has been accused of heaving the physically impaired woman into the bath, and turning on just the hot tap.

The grandma, 73, died after being scalded in a bath in Siberia
To ensure her mother-in-law couldn't escape, she allegedly then locked the bathroom door from the outside.

Her death followed an argument between the 73-year-woman and her daughter-in-law, who was her carer.

A spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, said: “The grandmother was screaming from pain and begging for help.

"But due to a disability was unable to lift herself out of the bath."

He added: “Her grandchildren heard her cries but could not help because they were too little.

“Some time later, the daughter-in-law stopped [the] hot water and dragged the older woman out of the bath.”

More than 50 per cent of her body was covered in severe burns, it was alleged.

Her son returned home and called an ambulance.
The mother-in-law died at hospital.

The daughter-in-law has been charged with causing grave health damage leading to death, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail.
