A new video of the suspect in the Iowa school shooting on Thursday shows him standing in, what is presumed to be a bathroom at the school, the morning of the shooting.
The Associated Press reported on Thursday afternoon that a sixth grader has died, and five others were hurt during the shooting. Among those injured was the school principal of over 25 years.
WHO13 reported that the suspect, who they identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler, was a student at Perry High School when he opened fire around 7:37 a.m. Central Time on the first day of classes after winter break.

The music in the video was removed due to copyright, but the lyrics, from the song called “Stray Bullet” by KMFDM read, “I am your holy totem, I am your sick taboo, radical and radiant, Im your nightmare coming true.” The music played behind the video with the added text on the screen reading, “now we wait.”
Butler was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was found with the not-yet detonated improvised explosive device, which cops described as “rudimentary.”
The teenager is believed to have acted alone, though his motive remains unclear.
The attack came on the first day back in class after winter break, but Butler opened fire before the opening bell when “very few students and faculty” were in the building, Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante said at a press conference in the aftermath of the shooting.

Ahmir Jolliff dashed out of his home in Perry Thursday morning, eager to see his friends on the first day back to school after winter break.

It was vintage Ahmir — known as “Smiley” around his house — an 11-year-old whirlwind of cheerful activity. He kept a trunk of toys unlocked in the front yard so anyone could play with them, his mother said. He loved soccer, played the tuba and sang in choir. He had a habit of touching people on their shoulder and asking them how their day was.

Ahmir was killed Thursday before class even started, when a 17-year-old student at Perry High School opened fire in the cafeteria. The sixth-grader, who attended the middle school that's connected to the high school, was shot three times, authorities said. Seven others, including the school's principal, two other staff members and four students, were wounded before the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ahmir's mother, Erica Jolliff, said on that morning, her son couldn't wait to get to school and left minutes ahead of his mom and sister, who is in ninth-grade. Jolliff soon found herself scouring the streets for her children when authorities sped into town and blocked access to the complex after the shooting. She found her daughter unharmed. But she couldn’t find Ahmir.

“I just had a feeling he was still in that building,” she said.

Jolliff said she was horrified to hear that friends of 17-year-old Dylan Butler, who police have identified as the shooter, say he was bullied for years and that teachers and school officials did nothing to protect him.

“We send our condolences to the family of Dylan; they’re in our prayers and we’re truly sorry for his loss as well,” she said in an interview late Friday with The Associated Press.

On Saturday, a rock outside the school was repainted the school color, bright blue, in honor of Ahmir. The rock, which previously had been painted white, had already become a memorial site where people left teddy bears and flowers.

Erica Jolliff is a very gracious woman sending prayers to the family of the teen that killed her child.

Ahmir had the face of an angel, hopefully he is one now because if he spent his very short life caring about others and doing anything he could to brighten their day, he has definitely earned his wings. I absolutely hate what has happened to this kindhearted boy. He didn't deserve any of that.

Iowa principal who risked his life to protect students during high school shooting dies

DES MOINES, Iowa — An Iowa principal who put himself in harm’s way to protect students during a school shooting earlier this month died Sunday, a funeral home confirmed.

Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory confirmed the death of Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger after the family announced it on a GoFundMe page.

Marburger was critically injured during the Jan. 4 attack, which began in the school’s cafeteria as students were gathering for breakfast before class.

An 11-year-old middle school student was killed in the shooting, and six other people were injured.

The 17-year-old student who opened fire also died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
