Richard Mata Was Drinking & Forgot He Left His 3MO Infant In The Car

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested a man in connection to the death of his 3-month-old, a release stated.

Ricardo Mata, 34, is charged with injury to a child causing death, a second-degree felony.

At 3:48 p.m. on Saturday, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to Mission Regional Hospital following a report of an infant found unresponsive inside a locked vehicle.

Medical personnel confirmed the child’s death.

While speaking to investigators, Mata admitted to having placed the child in the backseat of his vehicle and then going inside the home to lie down. He further stated that he had been drinking and forgot the infant was in the car, the release added.

The Dad that left his 3-month-old son to die in a hot car yesterday was out on bond for murder.

Ricardo Adrian Mata is out in bond for the murder of Leonardo Veliz at a stripes in 2021, and for a 2nd DWI in 2023.

The 3-month-old baby was placed in the car because the was supposed to take him to a relative's home, but then went back inside the house and passed out. When they realized the boy was missing in the afternoon, they had to retrace their steps to realize he was left in the car. The baby had been dead for about six hours when they found him. We are hearing the mom may be charged as well.

We are hearing that this isn't the first tragedy in the family... Unconfirmed reports say the same family lost another child in an accidental drowning years ago.
