Actress Naya Rivera was missing and presumed to be dead after her 4-year-old son was found adrift on a boat in Lake Piru in Ventura County Wednesday, officials said.

Deputies received a call of a child found alone on a boat in the lake around 6 p.m., said Cpt. Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The boy was adrift for about three hours until someone on another boat found him and notified authorities, officials at the scene said.

A search and rescue dive team searched the lake as they were unable to locate the child’s parents, officials said. The department tweeted that they were searching for a possible drowning victim.

Sheriff’s officials later said the missing person is “Glee” actress Naya Rivera, 33, and she is presumed to be dead.

It was not yet clear how the child ended up alone or what happened to Rivera.

The boy was wearing a life jacket when he was found, the department said.

Lake Piru is a reservoir in the Los Padres National Forest and Topatopa Mountains of Ventura County.

Wow, that is a very unexpected headline. It is very good that the child involved is accounted for and alive, at the least. But the situation, even considering, still seems dark.

I remember seeing Naya Rivera on an infomercial a few years ago for an acne-fighting product.

I never watched Glee, because it seemed ideologically disparate from my values as a musician, and therefore had no appeal to me.

Regardless of any of that, I hope they find her soon. It is not my place to pontificate on whether she is alive or dead at this time; I will not comment on that specific facet, other than to say that I cannot help but think of Natalie Wood: an excellent actress and tragic figure that clearly deserved better.

Authorities had previously said they suspected the 33-year-old actress drowned in the southern California lake during an excursion with her 4-year-old son, who was discovered asleep Wednesday in the a drifting pontoon boat Rivera had rented earlier that day. The boy was wearing a life preserver and was unharmed. An adult life preserver was also found on the boat.

Naya Rivera confirmed dead after her body is found in Lake Piru

Naya Rivera’s body was discovered Monday morning in the Southern California lake where she disappeared while on a boat outing with her 4-year-old son, according to a report.

A body found Monday morning in Lake Piru, about 56 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, was confirmed to be that of the “Glee” actress, law enforcement sources told TMZ.

“The recovery is in progress,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Twitter.
