CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A long-time and respected law enforcement officer is facing federal charges of receiving and attempting to receive child pornography after the mother of a 15-year-old boy found images on her son's iPad that prompted her to go to the FBI.

Kenneth McCord, 55, was arrested Wednesday morning by the FBI in Charleston. He is charged with receipt and attempted receipt of child pornography, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

According to court documents, on February 19, the FBI interviewed the boy's mother in Orange County, CA, regarding sexually explicit messages she believed had been exchanged between an unidentified adult man and her teenage son.

The boy's mother told investigators she discovered through phone records that the two had been in contact since at least March 2024, including FaceTime calls to each other.

A federal agent said the conversation with "Ken" on the boy's iPad dated back to December 30, 2024. The FBI agent said she saw multiple nude and/or sexually explicit photographs of what appeared to be an adult male to the 15-year-old. In addition, the teenage boy also sent explicit images of himself to the man, later identified as McCord.

Hearing delayed for ex-investigator on federal child pornography charges

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A preliminary hearing for a longtime law enforcement officer who is now facing federal child pornography charges has been continued as the suspect has been moved to a jail outside of West Virginia.

Kenneth McCord, 55, was arrested last Wednesday morning by the FBI in Charleston. He is charged with receipt and attempted receipt of child pornography, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

McCord was set to go before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dwane Tinsley on Monday for a preliminary hearing in the case. However, on Sunday, his new attorneys filed a motion to continue the hearing.

Court documents said Timothy Lafon and Michael Del Guidice had just been retained on Sunday to represent McCord. They asked for at least eight to 10 days to be prepared for the hearing.

McCord was initially sent to the South Central Regional Jail following his arrest but is now incarcerated at the Carter County Detention Center, according to jail records. He was booked at the Grayson, Ky., facility on Thursday.

This guy will be placed in a nice cushy club fed somewhere. He'll have nice stay. The BOP can't afford to have any molesters harmed in custody. He'll be hid away with a lot of similar types. The idea that people like this get justice in jail via assault is false. Whitey Bulger got his, but that was an anomaly (maybe).

Ex-investigator indicted on more charges in federal child pornography investigation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A long-time law enforcement officer who has been jailed since his arrest in March is facing more federal child pornography charges in addition to another alleged victim being added to the investigation.

Kenneth McCord, 55, was indicted on four counts of child pornography related crimes in April. Last Tuesday, a federal grand jury in Charleston returned a superseding indictment against McCord that charges him with seven offenses and lists a third victim that was not included in the initial indictment. All of the alleged victims in the case are teenage boys.
