Apparently, and I don't want to say it...
Capcom is blooming retconning the whole mythology that surrounds the series. The founder of Umbrella is a good example here. He wanted to create a new race of beings. That old man was so power hungry. He was never interested in being helpful because of what his company caused.
But Wesker killed him, so I guess we'll never know. However, much of the games' storylines never truly adds up in any case. They've just thrown in a lot of plot twists, only to serve to move on or insert new ones in their spot.
