Police in Owensboro said they are investigating a child abuse case after a 6-week-old infant was hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Detectives launched an investigation and both parents were transported to the Owensboro Police Department for questioning. During the course of the investigation, the child’s mother, identified as 24-year-old Rachel Basham admitted to intentionally causing harm to the infant, police stated in a release.
Authorities reported the abuse resulted in internal injuries and multiple broken bones.
Basham has been charged with Criminal Abuse in the First Degree involving a child 12 years old or under.
The infant remains under medical care and is reported to be in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing.
