Officers were flagged down by two people shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, in the area of La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata, where there was a reported shooting.
Investigators said that witnesses were in the backseat of a vehicle when quadruple amputee cornhole player Dayton Webber, the driver, shot and killed Bradrick Wells, who was in the front seat, during an argument. Webber then pulled over and asked the passengers to help pull him out of the car, though they refused, got out, and tracked down the police.
Webber then fled with Wells still in the vehicle. All four knew each other.
Charles County Sheriff’s patrol officers responded and assisted in canvassing the locations to which Webber may have fled, until, nearly two hours later, a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall called 911 to report that a body was found in their yard.
Upon arrival, officers found Wells' body. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Detectives from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for Webber’s arrest and located his vehicle in Charlottesville.
He was later located at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for a medical issue.
Upon being released, Webber was arrested by officers with the Albemarle County Police Department and was charged as a fugitive from justice.
He later waived his extradition hearing in Virginia to face the charges in Maryland.
