Muriel Schwenck

Beloved Curmudgeon
On Sunday, September 8, 2019, 4:27 pm, Sheriff Deputies on foot patrol on Laurel Street in San Carlos were flagged down by a concerned citizen reporting a baby crying inside a vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot with a man, identified as Jeremy Ryan Davis, 39, passed out in the front passenger seat of his vehicle. In the rear of the vehicle, was Davis’ 18-month old daughter buckled in a car seat.
It was a warm/sunny day, the vehicle was not running and all four car windows were only slightly open causing extremely high/dangerous temperatures inside the vehicle. The child was screaming and in distress.
Deputies opened the unlocked vehicle and began tending to the child, who was removed from the vehicle and medically evaluated by Fire and Medics. After several repeated attempts to rouse Davis, he finally awoke and was evaluated on scene by Deputies.
Davis was found to be under the combined influence of alcohol and cannabis, and was unable to safely care for himself or his daughter. Davis was arrested and charged with Felony Cruelty to a Child, and Public Intoxication. The child was later released to the custody of her mother and recovered from her ordeal.
