The prisoner CNN helped free from a secret facility in Syria was actually a notorious member of Bashar al-Assad’s forces known to torture those who refused to pay him off, according to a shocking local fact check.

The network went viral last week with footage of the startled prisoner being led from the prison by journalist Clarissa Ward, who called it “one of the most extraordinary moments I have witnessed” in her 20 years of reporting.

But “independent and unbiased” fact-checkers Verify-Sy published a detailed report Sunday saying that the seemingly innocent prisoner was actually Salama Mohammad Salama — a first lieutenant in Syrian air force intelligence with a long history of alleged war crimes.

“We have subsequently been investigating his background and are aware that he may have given a false identity,” CNN acknowledged to The Post. “We are continuing our reporting into this and the wider story.”

Yikes. Maybe CNN should've sat this one out instead.

But hey, you know what al-Assad has held captive for decades, and actually need to be freed? Any given member of his luxury car collection.

To any rebel fighter in Syria, if you happen to have one of Assad's cars laying around, hit me up! I will gladly volunteer in that revolution of yours by driving around in the car and taking good care of it. I will definitely be happy to grant asylum for one of Assad's cars over here in America and protect it from evil forces by doing so. In exchange, I could probably find someone who can deliver a few pizzas as far as Syria. But probably not more than five pizzas, and they all can't have more than two toppings. It's a standing offer, because I think a luxury car in exchange for five delicious American pizzas is more than a fair exchange.

If you get any nibbles, hook a sistah up, 'K?

Glad to know that my 'fake-dar' is working as it should... :woot:
Yeah, he didn't look ANYTHING like a man traumatized from being in a Syrian prison would. Even the American who said he wasn't treated terribly looked a hell of a lot worse off. I didn't think it was this bad, though! I thought maybe he was some random guy who either agreed to "be freed" or even knew someone was coming and wanted to prance around TV and practice some acting chops.
This is just wild! It's hilarious but also kind of depressing.
