Michael Plante was charged in Scott County Court Friday with one count of felony domestic assault and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault. The case was moved to Carver County to avoid a conflict of interest.

Plante was already off the job, placed on leave August 14 after his arrest was reported.

“The city recognizes that our government is dependent upon our citizens having the trust and confidence in their public employees," said Prior Lake Mayor Kirt Briggs The public rightfully expects that our city employees will conduct themselves in a way that does not undermine the public’s trust.”

The Prior Lake City Council will hold a special meeting Monday, August 19 at 4pm to review the matter.

was arrested on Wednesday after a woman identified as his wife reported him to police for assaulting her, according to a criminal complaint.

The charges say the two were in an argument in their home that morning when the victim grabbed Plante's phone and "and asked if she should look through it."

The criminal complaint adds that Plante took his phone back from the victim, at which point she was able to get away from him.

Police later noted that her "neck was very red and had markings on it."

Plante was charged Thursday with domestic assault by strangulation — a felony carrying up to three years in prison — and a misdemeanor count of domestic assault.
