This is probably the most embarrassing and ridiculous stories I have ever heard.

Even people at r/conspiracy say "it's an invitation to a war".

The truth is much simpler than that.
Marco Rubio was so wet when meeting Trump that he made Donald's tiny hands so wet, the balloon slipped outz before they could paint remaining 47 flags (sorry Ohio, you're not a state).

In an age when at least half of the world supposedly has 360 degree satellites which can see everything and anything, saying that a reportedly adversary country sends a Disneyland balloon to spy on you is ridiculous.

US military recovers electronic sensors from downed Chinese spy balloon

The US military recovered the electronic mechanism and key sensors — believed to be used for intelligence gathering — from the Chinese spy balloon shot down earlier this month, officials announced Monday.

“Crews have been able to recover significant debris from the site, including all of the priority sensor and electronics pieces identified as well as large sections of the structure,” the US military’s Northern Command said in a statement.

Members of the FBI’s evidence response team have since been studying the remnants to assess how extensive its surveillance capabilities were, but didn’t have access to the majority of the balloon’s “payload” — its onboard electronics. The military now has possession of the critical electronics.

White House says ‘thousands’ of objects in skies could be used car lot balloons

There are hundreds, “if not thousands,” of unknown objects soaring in the skies — but they’re likely just used car balloons or other benign crafts and not aliens visiting Earth, White House officials said Monday.

“There are no UFOs. This is not an invasion of the aliens,” White House Homeland Security Adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall said in a virtual briefing with governors after the US military shot down three flying objects last weekend.

US completes Chinese spy balloon recovery off South Carolina: Pentagon

WASHINGTON – The US military has completed its recovery of the Chinese spy balloon that spent a week traveling from Alaska to South Carolina earlier this month, the Pentagon announced Friday.

The Navy on Thursday concluded its recovery efforts that began after President Biden ordered the shoot-down on Feb. 4 of the surveillance device that had loitered over sensitive US military sites along its path.

NORAD commander Gen. Glen VanHerck had described the balloon as close to 200 feet tall with a payload the size of a jetliner, producing much debris to collect.

As pieces of the payload were recovered, the Navy helped transport them to shore, where they were taken into custody by federal investigators and sent to the FBI Lab at Quantico, Va.

‘No apology’ from China over spy balloon: Blinken

China offered “no apology” for the spy balloon that traveled across most of the US earlier this month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday, as he cautioned that Beijing was planning on providing lethal assistance to Russia during its nearly year long war on Ukraine.

The developments come despite President Biden claiming that the spy balloon, which was shot down Feb. 4 in the Atlantic off the South Carolina coast, would not hinder communications between Washington and Beijing and his relationship with Xi Jinping.

“There was no apology,” Blinken told NBC News’ Chuck Todd in an interview on “Meet the Press” aired Sunday.

“But what I can also tell you is this was an opportunity to speak very clearly and very directly about the fact that China sent a surveillance balloon over our territory, violating our sovereignty, violating international law. And I told him quite simply that that was unacceptable and can never happen again.”

Blinken met with Wang Saturday night at the international security conference in Munich — their first face-to-face meeting since US fighter jets downed the balloon off the South Carolina coast Feb. 4.

Pentagon releases pilot’s Chinese spy balloon selfie

The photographs were taken Feb. 3, the day before two US Air Force F-22 fighter jets shot down the balloon off Myrtle Beach, SC. The shot of a U-2 pilot looking at the balloon was published Tuesday on the blog Dragon Lady Today, run by UK-based aerospace journalist Chris Pocock. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh confirmed the image’s authenticity Wednesday.

Video of fighter jets shooting down UFOs over Alaska is classified, won't be released: Pentagon

The Pentagon said that footage of U.S. military aircraft shooting down two unidentified flying objects over Alaska is currently considered classified and will not be publicly released.

"The footage of the high altitude objects and the takedown of those objects exists," a Defense Department spokesman told Fox News Digital Wednesday, adding that "none of that footage has been cleared for release" and that "the footage remained classified."

The comments come after the Defense Department said last month that multiple "high-altitude objects" were shot down over Alaska at the direction of President Biden.

Chinese spy balloon gathered intelligence from US military sites: report

The Chinese spy balloon that drifted across the US in February collected intelligence from several American military sites and transmitted the information back to Beijing in real-time — even as the Biden administration intercepted it, according to US officials.
The spy balloon made multiple passes over some key locations and was able to send Beijing the information it gathered instantaneously, two current and one former senior US administration official told NBC News.

While soaring through the sky, the balloon was able to collect intelligence from electronic signals.

Such intelligence may have included weapons systems or communications from base personnel.
The three officials told NBC that China would have been able to gain much more intelligence had the Biden administration not moved around potential targets and stopped the targeted areas from broadcasting or emitting signals.

When the balloon was shot down in February off the coast of South Carolina, Biden officials said it was equipped with antennas capable of collecting communications signals and also carried large solar panels that can run various data sensors.
China has maintained that the balloon was part of a civilian meteorological research project and just strayed off its course — claims the US State Department has called bogus.

Biden excuses China’s spy balloon flight as Blinken visits Beijing

President Biden kicked off his first day of campaigning for re-election by making excuses for communist China — saying that President Xi Jinping never meant to fly a spy balloon over sensitive American military sites earlier this year.

“I don’t think the leadership knew where it was, and knew what was in it, and knew what was going on,” Biden told reporters Saturday as he headed to Philadelphia for his first campaign rally of the 2024 election. “I think it was more embarrassing than it was intentional.”

The conciliatory comments came as Secretary of State Antony Blinken continued a two-day visit to Beijing, his first diplomatic trip there since he called off a planned trip as the balloon made its uncontested three-day journey across US airspace.

“I’m hoping that over the next several months I’ll be meeting with Xi again, and talking about legitimate differences we have but also how … to get along,” Biden added.

Republicans were outraged at Biden’s anemic take on the incursion.

Chinese spy balloon had American-made parts, probably didn't transmit, according to report

(TND) — The Chinese spy balloon shot down by the United States this winter contained off-the-shelf American-made parts and likely didn't transmit information back to China, officials told The Wall Street Journal.

The Biden administration hasn’t released an official report on the makeup or capabilities of the balloon, but the WSJ cited unnamed U.S. officials who are privy to preliminary findings.

The balloon was shot down in early February after flying over parts of the U.S. and Canada for about a week.

The officials told the WSJ that the findings support the belief that it was a spy craft and not a civilian weather balloon, as has been China’s public position.

This isn't exactly a 'spy balloon' question, but it is a mutual destruction question...

Did anyone know that China tested it's Emergency Broadcast System yesterday, just as we did? Coincidence, or is something more sinister afoot? :spy:

Full year after Chinese spy balloon, Biden admin slammed for continued secrecy surrounding craft

One full year after the US Air Force shot a Chinese spy balloon out of the sky, the FBI’s forensic report on the craft’s surveillance capabilities remains veiled in secrecy — sparking a blunt demand for “appropriate transparency” from the Biden administration, The Post has learned.

The giant balloon’s days-long journey across the entire North American continent in early 2023 — which dominated headlines around the world until its remnants were fished out of the ocean off the coast of South Carolina on Feb. 17 — was a “major intelligence failure” caused by President Biden’s weakness, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) wrote Friday to FBI Director Christopher Wray.

“It is time that the administration comes clean about what it knows regarding the balloon and when it knew it,” Issa’s letter continues.

“More than a year after the incident, the Bureau has yet to brief members [of Congress] on the results,” wrote Issa, a senior member of the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees.

“Meanwhile, the administration has failed to provide a satisfactory account to the public despite its assurances of appropriate transparency.”

I'm gonna wager a guess he's forgotten all about it.
