Justin Anthony Meadows, 29, was found dead of a gunshot wound in the yard after police were called about 1:40 a.m. to 1046 County Road 495.

Patrick Shannon Templeton, 50, was charged with murder at the Valley Police Department and taken to the Chambers County Detention Facility.

Templeton told police he was woken up by a loud noise in his yard and went outside to check it. He discovered that Meadows had driven into his yard and the vehicle was stuck in the mud.

He argued with Meadows before he was struck several times in the head and face, police said. After he was struck, Templeton said he entered his home and retrieved a .22 caliber rifle and stepped back outside.

Police said he fired the rifle at Meadows who was still next to his vehicle.

Before the shooting, the suspect’s wife said Meadows came to the house looking for her son but was told that he wasn’t there. Meadow’s vehicle became stuck as he attempted to leave.

Better to be pissed off than pissed on
It’s not self defense if you re-enter your house to get a gun.

Agreed. It's also not self defense if the threat is not imminent and deadly.

In Masquerade, Lowell Cauffiel wrote of W. Alan Canty, Ph.D (or Psych.D), John "Lucky" Fry, and Dawn Spens. Dr. Canty was Dawn's sugar daddy, she was his sugar baby, and "Lucky" Fry was Dawn's pimp. "Lucky"'s luck ran out when he and Dawn succeeded in draining Dr. Canty's bank account and he had to tell the two that the arrangement was finished. "Lucky" blocked him from leaving, and Dr. Canty shoved the ex-con out of his way. "Lucky" hit the floor, but came up with a baseball bat and caved in the back of Dr. Canty's head. And claimed self-defense. Then he died in prison, either on death row or serving life for murder.

A self-defense plea is fraught with danger. One is admitting to the killing but is simultaneously saying that the killing was necessary in order to prevent significant injury or death to the defendant from the decedent's unlawful use of physical force. And if the jury disagrees then the defendant will be imprisoned.
