"A Madisonville man, Barrett Korinta, was arrested for allegedly locking a coworker inside a scalding steam room at Land-O-Frost, causing her minor injuries, after he activated the machine and left her trapped.
According to police, Korinta and the victim were working together in the rack wash room, where trays are sanitized using steam that can reach temperatures up to 200 degrees.
Police records indicate that during a conversation about the door to the room, Korinta allegedly told the victim that they could close one another inside.
When the victim expressed concern, Korinta left the room, activated the machine, and left her trapped inside as scalding steam and chemicals filled the space.
"At this point, we don’t want to speculate on exactly why he did it, if it was just joking around, even though that’s not really a good joke. But at this point, we charged him accordingly." Said police
Investigators say the victim could not escape. The door would not open from the inside, and a second door was blocked by pallets. She was able to activate the emergency shut-off, but not before sustaining injuries.
He was released early Friday morning after posting a $1,000 bond.
In response to the incident, Land-O-Frost terminated Korinta's employment."
Bonds are low in the Land-O-Frost.
