Oklahoma City Police are investigating the death of a baby after the child was allegedly left in a hot car Saturday afternoon.

Officials with Oklahoma City police tell KFOR a 17-month-old was found deceased inside a car.

A neighbor spoke to News 4 Sunday afternoon.

“It makes me feel sick,” Loretta Bell told KFOR. “I’ve got a two-year-old granddaughter and I cannot imagine what that lady’s going through.”

“The grandma came and told me yesterday after the police left that the mamma accidentally left her baby in the car and it died,” Bell said.

The temperature outside at the time was 92 degrees and the heat index had reached 100, according to the 4Warn Storm Team.

“They’re good people, they are. She was a good mamma,” Bell said. “Just a mistake, an accident. That’s all it was.”

“I pray to God that she gets through this,” she said.

The case remains under investigation.

Bell said the child’s mother is devastated and in shock.

Authorities are releasing more information about the death of a 17-month-old baby girl after she was left in a hot car.

Just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oklahoma City police were called to a home in the 3700 block of S.W. 40th Pl. after a child was found unresponsive in a car.

When officers arrived, they found the 17-month-old girl with blue lips, swollen skin and no pulse.

Officials say based on the child’s injuries, she had been left in the car for quite a while.

Immediately, police began to perform CPR.

“As paramedics arrived, they determined that the child could not be saved and the child was pronounced dead,” said MSgt. Gary Knight, with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Neighbors say the girl’s mother is devastated and simply forgot that she was in the backseat of the car.

Again... How do you have a toddler and not have them under foot & with loud vocalizations!? Even napping why weren't you checking in on them periodically.. I was always in and out of rooms doing laundry - picking up toys - hunting dink dinks & sippy cups to wash - straightening rooms etc... Even when sick.. I always took care of the kids room & nursery.. WTF is going on in someone's life to forget where your kid is??

I can kinda buy the stories where parents are swapping kids, dropping kids off, switching cars. Where they think they handed the kid off/dropped them off before going into somewhere for an extended amount of time. Can’t imagine just forgetting.

I don't get it either. My youngest was always hanging on my legs, whining, wanting a cookie, tearing things up, when he wasn't home I was looking for him, thinking he was up to no good. So how can you just "forget"a busy, noisy 17mo baby? I can not figure that out.

Even when out shopping I seem to be paying more attention to babies riding in carts than the person who is supposed to be paying attention to them. Parents obliviously talking to friends while baby is trying to stand up in the seat of the cart, my heart goes into overdrive when I see that and parents are not even looking. I told a few just to get a mind your on business look. So yeah I don't get it.

I cant understand a mom forgetting a baby .I hav 5 yo n 2yo when i get out of tha first thing i do COME ON KIDS GET OUT
