According to the probable cause statement, it happened near the 101-mile marker on Interstate 70 on February 23.

When deputies got to the scene, a man told them that his wife had taken a butcher knife from her purse when he was driving and lunged at their two children.

The man said she had a "mental status change," according to the PC statement.
The man said the woman, Jennifer Fangmann, 41, of Columbia, said, "Please forgive me," and "I can't let them take or hurt the kids."

The man, while still driving on I-70, was able to grab the knife to stop her from hurting the children. His hand was cut in the struggle.

He finally got the vehicle stopped and got the kids out.

The three sat on the side of the road until some good samaritans stopped to help.

When the people stopped, Fangmann got into the car and drove away.

Deputies spotted the car going west in the eastbound median of I-70.

The car kept driving in the median until it hit a culvert near the 111-mile marker.

Deputies said Fangmann got out of the car and tried to walk into traffic.

The deputies got ahold of her and arrested her before she was hurt.
A Facebook post from the Cooper County Sheriff said she was taken for a mental evaluation.

Reminds me of my mother, driving twice the speed limit, while smoking a cigarette, screaming and slapping at us over the back of the front seat. And she usually was yelling at me to not puke in that floor! Yeah like I could help it when you're in a closed up in a car with her smoking like a freight train. Couldn't mess up the coiffure, god forbid her hair got messed up.

And no seat belts...

I remember when riding with grandma, in the front seat, her arm would swing out and restrain me if it was an abrupt stop.

I ended up having a personal conversation with someone states away. I don't remember how it came up, but he said he and his sister would try to escape their parents' cigarette smoke on tripe by hiding under a blanket in the backseat. That should be considered child abuse, but those were the days, eh.

Perhaps I've mentioned before how my parents bought a little hassock for me to sit on in the back seat so I could see. My father was a very safe driver, but, still. My mother also swung her arm out and that continued even after we had seat belts.

I do that this very day with the teenaged grandkids.

I still do it, even if there's nothing in the seat beside me. Seat belts were not required until my youngest was about 15. He was with his daddy when they got stopped and the officer said, sir, your daughter doesn't have on her seat belt. He cut his hair the next day! LOL
Crewcut, eh?

Why does this sound like you found someone on Adult Friend Finder?

A Columbia woman accused of attempting to murder her two children two years ago is found not guilty by reason of insanity in February 2025 regarding the attempted murder of her children.
Due to the insanity verdict, she was ordered to be committed to the Missouri Department of Mental Health for treatment.
