A former teacher at Tomball Intermediate School is accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child after police received allegations from a former student of Tomball Intermediate School.

Tomball Intermediate School serves 5th and 6th grade students and is part of Tomball Independent School District.

Police said in a news release distributed on Sunday that an investigation into claims of an inappropriate sexual relationship with the teacher led to the arrest of Marka Bodine, 31.

Bodine was booked into the Harris County Jail.

“It does appear that this is one of those cases where grooming of the child was involved, in other words, getting the person to be feel trusted initially,” Bert said. “Our big concern from the police department right now is to ensure that we have all the evidence of this case, but to ensure that there are no other children involved.”

Bodine made her first court appearance on April 19. According to KPRC-TV, Bodine had also gone to the police to report that a former student, whom she had taught in 6th grade, was “harassing” her. The outlet, citing court documents, reported that Bodine admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with the boy and that it started in 2018 when the student was 13.

Bodine is charged with “Continuous sexual abuse of a child,” which is an enhanced first-degree felony. This charge applies when the victim is younger than 14. According to the Texas penal code, the possible punishment if convicted is steep: “An offense under this section is a felony of the first degree, punishable by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for life, or for any term of not more than 99 years or less than 25 years.”

Tomball Police Chief Jeff Bert said the investigation began last Monday, after one of Bodine’s former students called police and complained of an ongoing, inappropriate sexual relationship with his former teacher at Tomball Intermediate.

Bert said evidence shows the sexual abuse went on for several years.

"Most of the investigation indicates it's been about two and a half to three years. Both social media, text, and other forms of evidence. And it does appear that this is one of those cases where grooming of the child was involved, in other words, getting the person to be feel trusted initially. Texas teacher’s sex abuse sentence delayed after she gives birth​

A teacher has admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old boy in her classroom.

Marka Bodine, 32, will be jailed for just 60 days for sexually abusing the boy – but her sentence has been delayed because she has just had a baby.

Prosecutors had hoped for a sentence of up to 40 years in prison.

Bodine met the boy while teaching English at Tomball Intermediate School in Texas.

The victim told police that Bodine started chatting to him on Fortnite before they started texting.

The abuse continued for three years, with Bodine having sex with the boy in her classroom and in her car on several occasions, court documents said.

She even moved into his apartment complex following her divorce.

The abuse came to light when Bodine told her school principal that she was being harassed by a former student, who was threatening to harm himself.

Bodine’s sentence has been delayed because of recent the birth of her baby. Her victim is not the father. She must also register as a sex offender.
