A New Jersey state trooper has been arrested on child pornography charges.
Trooper Jeffrey G. Reitz, 47, of Williamstown was arrested on Thursday and charged with third-degree possession of child pornography.
Police said that he traded explicit emails with a woman who proposed he sexually assault her five-year-old daughter, and who sent him a nude photo of the girl.
According to an affidavit of probable cause Reitz was engaged in an X-rated email exchange with a woman on December 31, 2014.
The woman proposed that Reitz sexually assault her five-year-old daughter, according to the document.
Police say that Reitz responded: 'ANY PICS? I WANNA SEE IF IT GETS ME HARD.'
The woman then sent a photo of the five-year-old girl's genitals, to which Reitz responded 'NICE!' according to the affidavit.
Investigators say that Reitz sent the woman photos of his own genitals both before and after receiving the explicit image of the prepubescent girl's genitals.
The alleged email chain, now more than four years old, was discovered by authorities much later, when the woman was arrested a separate case by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
Her phone was seized and investigators discovered the emails.
The woman pleaded guilty to permitting a child to engage in pornography, and was sentenced to seven years in state prison.
