An attorney is speaking out on behalf of a grieving San Francisco woman, whose young child was killed in a murder-suicide.

San Francisco police found the bodies of her ex-husband and her 9-year-old son, Pierce O’Loughlin, Wednesday night in the Marina District.

The tragedy is believed to have followed a bitter dispute over medical decisions regarding the boy.

Whether the 9-year-old should be vaccinated was just one of the arguments the parents were having over their son.

Family law attorney Lorie Nachlis says the horrid act was more-so about a father who was unwilling to give up control and suffered from untreated mental illness, resulting in this tragic murder-suicide.

The father is accused of shooting the boy and then turning the gun on himself.

The tragedy follows a divorce from 5 years ago and bitter disputes between Pierce’s parents over what was best for the boy, says attorney Lorie Nachlis.

Exemption status -- All 50 states have legislation requiring specified vaccines for students. Although exemptions vary from state to state, all school immunization laws grant exemptions to children for medical reasons.

The medical exemption may have been due to an illness that he had recovered from, or dad was gaming the system to avoid it and mom was trying to get the boy on a sensible vaccination schedule.
Anti-vaxxer is a perfect scenario for a mentally ill control freak. And just one of the many weapons he used against his family.

He went to a private school, and they get to have their own rules about vaccinations. Also, even public schools get to have exemptions and waivers, which are doled out willy-nilly in that particular region. I believe I read that SF and surrounding counties have the lowest vaccination compliance rates among children in the entire USA, rates below the herd immunity threshold.

Also, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, people assumed it was uneducated idiots and immigrants who dodged vaccinations, but they studied it during a whooping cough epidemic a few years back and found that it was well educated people who were anti vaxx and the immigrant community at all levels was the most likely to immunize their children, even illegal aliens.
 
As the Chronicle reports, Stephen O'Loughlin had become an adamant anti-vaxxer after joining a Bay Area "new age" group. He had refused to allow Pierce to be vaccinated form an early age, which became a prime point of contention the custody battle.

According to a court filing by Hu, O'Loughlin's stance on vaccinations had taken on "a cult-like tone," and he believed vaccines were being used by the government for mind-control. Further, Hu said, O'Loughlin had a habit of videotaping the child's breathing, sometimes multiple times a day, "to document a stuffy nose."

However, Nachilis was clear to note that Pierce’s death was from "more complex reasons" than a debate about vaccinations.

“Pierce wasn’t killed because of a disagreement over a stuffy nose and he wasn’t killed over a disagreement regarding vaccinations," Nachilis continued. "He was killed for more complex reasons [...] he punished Leslie with the ultimate act of violence, killing her child, and she will suffer as I believe was intended for the rest of her life."

The 9-year-old boy killed during Wednesday afternoon's suspected murder-suicide in the Marina District has been identified as the son of Leslie Hu, who was in the process of seeking sole custody of the boy.

The bodies were found at O’Loughlin’s apartment one day after he agreed to begin vaccinations for his son amid a custody battle with his ex-wife and the boy’s mother, Lesley Hu — who sought sole legal guardianship of Pierce while claiming her former partner is an anti-vaxxer, court documents cited by the newspaper shows.

“[O’Loughlin’s] stance on vaccinations has taken on a cult-like tone,” Hu wrote in a September filing, adding that Stephen had videotaped Pierce’s breathing several times a day for ailments as minor as a stuffy nose.

Hu alleged O’Loughlin had refused to allow their son to be vaccinated since early childhood. More recently, Hu claimed O’Loughlin had gotten involved in a self-help group from 2012 through 2016 and spent thousands on sessions after becoming convinced that the “government was out to get us and was trying to mind-control us,” court documents show.

Attorneys for O’Loughlin, meanwhile, insisted he was against getting his son vaccinated because Pierce had serious side effects when he was inoculated as a child.
