Tatiana Maxwell, 25, was arrested at the University of Chicago Medical Center on Friday, according to an arrest report. She was charged with first-degree murder.

Maxwell herself was not present for the hearing, though her attorneys were. Police said Maxwell was still in the hospital receiving a psychological evaluation on Sunday.

However, some gruesome details of how the murder allegedly played out were revealed in court.
Prosecutors from the Cook County State's Attorney's office said Maxwell, baby Nyhnia, and the baby's biological father were inside an apartment in the complex. Prosecutors said Maxwell took Nyhnia out of her bassinet and threatened to hurt her.

Attorneys said at one point, Maxwell barricaded herself in the apartment. They said she ended up stabbing Nyhnia in the chest and killing her.

Police said the baby was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Maxwell jumped out of the second-floor apartment window after stabbing the baby, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Maxwell apologized for committing the act, saying, "I did not mean it," and asked for forgiveness.
