Dayanna Familia, 35, was arraigned Monday in Dorchester on manslaughter and other charges in connection with the death of her 4-year-old daughter Liyanna Bautista Familia back in August.
Liyanna died as a result of ingesting fentanyl, prosecutors said.
Dayanna Familia was arrested Saturday morning by the Boston Police Department's Fugitive Unit. In addition to manslaughter, she is charged with drug possession, destruction of evidence and intentionally misleading an investigator in a criminal investigation.

The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Aug. 17, according to Boston police. They said officers responded to a radio call for an unknown problem just before 9 p.m. and found an unresponsive 4-year-old. They began administering CPR and the child was rushed to a local hospital where she later died.

An autopsy determined that the child's death was caused by "acute fentanyl intoxication," Boston police said.
New details about the incident emerged in court Monday, with prosecutors revealing that Familia lied to EMS personnel and police who were attempting to save her daughter's life about what was causing the medical emergency.

She told them "the child was drinking milk when she turned blue and perhaps had gotten into a roach trap" even though prosecutors said she knew it was likely caused by fentanyl she had left out and the child had gotten into.

Familia was also seen on police body camera trying to conceal and destroy white powder alleged to be fentanyl. Search warrants executed at the home afterward found fentanyl.
