Gwinnett County police are investigating after a pregnant 16-year-old was found dead on Monday.
At around 1 a.m., officers were called to a largely residential area, in Loganville. Mia Campos’ family had found her body in a wooded area off the side of the road using a cellphone tracking app, according to police.
Her father, Edward Campos, said she was found less than a mile away from their home.
“I found my daughter laid face down,” he said. “It was hard. I knew it was something wrong – her lips, her bleeding nose. They murdered my baby.”
The family said Campos left the house the night before with an unknown person. Campos’ death was ruled a homicide on Tuesday.
Jesus Monroy, Campos’ ex-boyfriend, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with giving false statements to police, according to Gwinnett police. Officers said Monroy is not currently a suspect.
Family members have confirmed Monroy was the father of the child.
