A man died in California after fighting with a crowd of people he intentionally tried to hit his truck.

The Associated Press reported that the man was asked to leave a business in Hawthorne, Calif. on Saturday. After an argument with someone, he drove his truck on the sidewalk and nearly hit a group of people.

Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the AP that while the man's truck was against a tree, people in the crowd attempted to remove him from the car, but he drove the truck into the corner of a building.

Eventually, the people removed the man, who was in his 40s, from his vehicle and began to fight him. The driver suffered blunt-force trauma and died at the scene, according to sheriff's Deputy Grace Medrano, who spoke to the AP.

Most of the people involved in the incident were released following interviews with detectives. Any further action is pending the results of an autopsy, according to the AP.

Reynaga said officials were still awaiting those results but added that the crashes "weren’t that impactful," the AP said.

I was about to post a thread of this, because my initial search did not uncover a "Melguin Santos" in any thread, but right before I posted I tried once more, this time using the location, and discovered @Sugar Cookie already posted this story. Here it is anyways, because why not.

Violent Asshole Apparently Dies From Street Justice

In the early afternoon on Saturday, Melguin Lopez Santos got into a dispute inside the 'Rock It Sports Lounge and Grill" in Hawthorne. The events leading up to this is dispute is unknown at this time, but what is known was that Melguin was asked to leave.

When Melguin got into his truck he decided that instead of just driving away like a responsible person he would take his truck on some urban off-roading, and down the sidewalk he went. He aimed his road/sidewalk rage toward a group of patrons standing outside the offending sports bar, but lost control and cashed into a tree. After a bit of effort, Mad Melguin got his truck away from the interfering tree, but before he could run anyone over, or just drive away, he quickly crashed into a nearby building.

By this time, the surrounding public had enough of his shenanigans and pulled Melguin's angry fat ass out of the truck and pummeled him to a bleeding wreck, much like his truck. Melguin will never have to be asked to the 'Rock It Sports Lounge and Grill', or any other bar, again.

The police have no suspects at this time.

Melguin "Mad Mel: The Sidewalk Warrior" Santo

About 12:10 a.m., Hawthorne police responded to the 14200 block of Hawthorne Boulevard after receiving several calls about a vehicle attempting to strike people on a sidewalk, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.
Santos had an earlier verbal altercation inside a nearby business and was asked to leave, but returned and drove at the patrons standing outside the establishment, sheriff's officials said.

He lost control of the pickup and hit a tree.

“Surrounding patrons attempted to take the driver out of the vehicle, but the driver was able to accelerate and drove his truck into a nearby building,” according to an LASD statement. “Patrons again took the driver out of the vehicle, and a physical altercation ensued, at this time, Hawthorne police arrived on scene.”

Officers arrived within minutes of the call and found [Melguin Lopez] Santos on the ground, suffering from apparent blunt force trauma, sheriff's officials said.

Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. ............................. (more at link) https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/hawthorne-man-dead-crowd-beaten-police/2710534/

Monica Perez, Santos’ wife, and other family members gathered outside the bar in the 14200 block of Hawthorne Boulevard on Monday morning. Perez is the mother of Santos’ four children, she told reporters through tears.

“I want justice for my husband,” she said. “This wasn’t an accident, he was murdered.”
Perez and her sister, Ilene Perez, asked for anyone with information about what led up to the incident to contact investigators.

“He was a very good father, very supportive,” Ilene Perez said of her brother-in-law. “He did not deserve this. Whatever happened, it shouldn’t have gotten that far.”

People did not deserve to be almost run over either.

Yeah, but do you know him when he's drunk at the bar and in a bad mood? As I've said before, none of us can ever know with confidence what lies in the hearts of our loved ones. Even if someone is practically saintlike, something can still go sideways and they can act like an asshole.

I had already wondered if they'll try to sue the bar for over serving or some such crap, and that looks even more likely now, however, I doubt their demand for an investigation is going to be given much attention considering the lack of evidence for murder.

Can no one ever admit their loved one lost their damn mind .. did some fucked up ridiculous bullshit and it cost them their lives.. personally I hope there's so little information to interview - more the less charge someone.. he danced with fate and lost.. accept the damn truth .. love him for how you remember him and move on..
