A 26-year-old Hartland man died during an explosion that happened Saturday around 7:30 p.m. at a baby shower in Gaines Township.

During the baby shower a small cannon type device was fired in the backyard as part of the celebration, according to police.

When the cannon was fired by the homeowner it blew up and led to metal shrapnel striking three parked vehicles, garage where the baby shower was being held and the victim standing nearby.

The victim was initially seriously injured and then later died after being taken to Hurley Medical Center.

Sigh. Why do people have to make bigger and bigger deals about routine events?!? The whole escalating "gender reveal" parties, some where people have been injured and killed due to stupid stunts, and now baby showers.

A baby shower is for friends and relatives to celebrate with the mom-to-be, play a few silly games, and have cake and tea. There is zero need for a fucking cannon. Why is there a trend for people to try to outdo everyone else for something as simple as gender reveals and baby showers?? Shallow, vain idiots.

I blame social media. Everyone is trying to outdo everyone else with this shit. 99% of baby showers I have attended had no men in attendance at all. I don't know any men who would enjoy sitting around with a dozen or more women losing their shit over baby outfits and baby gear. We played games and no cannons were involved. I guess that's another good reason for men to stay the fuck out of it.
