KTVI-TV reports that Larry Thomlison of St. Charles is charged with assault and armed criminal action. Thomlison does not yet have an attorney.

The shooting happened Tuesday at the parking lot of a Target store in St. Charles. Authorities believe Thomlison was upset that the 21-year-old Amazon driver pulled into a handicapped-accessible parking space.

Police say Thomlison, who had a placard allowing him to park in handicapped-accessible spots, pulled out a cellphone to document the truck, leading to a struggle in which Thomlison was knocked to the ground. Police say he then pulled out a gun and shot the Amazon driver in the back.

The Amazon driver is paralyzed but says he forgives Thomlison.

ST. LOUIS — Twenty-one years old, two jobs and a 1-year-old son. Jaylen Walker was always on the go.

Right now, the motor that raises and lowers his hospital bed is about the only way he can move.

"I'll be paralyzed for the rest of my life," Walker said from his bed in the intensive care unit at Saint Louis University Hospital.

Tuesday, Walker said he had just finished his Amazon shift when he stopped in a St. Charles Target parking lot to help a fellow driver.

He admitted he parked in a disabled parking spot. What happened next, he and his family can't understand.

Prosecutors said 65-year-old Larry Thomlison confronted Walker.

Walker said Thomlison approached him and "asked me why the hell I parked in a handicapped spot and I told him, 'I'm gonna move it,'" recalled Walker. "And he kept harassing me."

Walker said Thomlison punched him and he fought back.

"When he pulled the gun out my eyes were just amazed. I tried to run in between two cars. He had a nice aim and hit me right in the spine," said Walker.

Prosecutors said surveillance video shows Walker trying to run away when he was shot in the back. The bullet paralyzed him from the stomach area down.

Wednesday, St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar charged Thomlison with first degree assault and armed criminal action.

Lohmar said Thomlison knows guns and should have known better.

"He's been through citizens police academy not once but twice," said Lohmar in a press conference to announce the charges. "He has concealed carry permit. So, he knows when and when he's not supposed to discharge a weapon.”

A suburban St. Louis man has been convicted of shooting an Amazon delivery truck driver during a dispute over a disabled parking spot.

Larry Thomlison, 70, of St. Charles, was found guilty Monday of first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the March 2019 shooting of 21-year-old Jaylen Walker, who was paralyzed from the waist down, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
