"A motorist on U.S. Highway 98 in Florosa Friday night spotted a 2-year-old child wearing a diaper walking across U.S. Highway 98 alone around 11:30 p.m., according to a press release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy familiar with the neighborhood went to a home where he knew there were young children and noticed a garage door and interior door open, the release said.

A man inside said he had put the toddler in bed and was checking emails and didn’t realize the boy had left. The deputy noted it was the second time in the past three days it had happened. The first time he said he found the child in a parking lot of a nearby car wash, the release said.

Deputies noted the man had not taken any extra precautions since the first incident to prevent the toddler escaping, and had also left the garage door open.

43-year old Micah Adkins is charged with one count of child neglect."

Damn, 19/98 is busy AF, no matter where the area, I wouldn't want my pet rock out on that road, let alone a living child or animal. I've been known to get out and move gopher tortoises from one side to the other to keep them from getting hit on 19/98, they're illegal to even touch, but I'd rather pay a fine for that then see one either hit and killed, or flip a car going too fast that hits it at just the right angle and speed to roll over.

Glad the Popo popped the Papa in jail for now; your toddler getting out *once* without your knowledge and making it to the highway is bad enough, and would make nearly all other parents put either rod (aka "pin") locks in the upper and lower doors, or very high and hard to open sliding-bolts way up at the top of all exit doors - that same toddler doing it *twice* isn't an "accident", it's now a habit of neglect by the parent and the ability ingrained in the child, and potentially deadly habits at that..

I would hope that some shitty agency wouldn't fine you for moving one across the road, there is this at least:

I put a bell on my front door, just that simple. They claim to have never heard it or even knew it was hanging there behind the curtain. i knew when they were in the fridge too, all the bottles in the door would clink together. They thought I was psychic, nawwww, just paying attention.
