"David Anthony, 48, was arrested on March 31st in Las Cruces, Mexico, in connection with the disappearance of his wife Gretchen, 51. He is charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping.

According to a witness, who is not being identified publicly, someone purporting to be Gretchen sent her a “suspicious” text message on March 23rd claiming she had been diagnosed with COVID-19, and was being detained by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Police also said another witness contacted them with a similar story, saying they had received a text from Gretchen claiming she had an “acute” case of COVID-19 and was being “sedated” by a CDC task force.

When contacted by police, officials at the Jupiter Medical Center said there was no one with Gretchen’s name at the hospital. Reports of someone claiming to be Gretchen sending an additional text message to her mother saying she was on a ventilator at a local hospital also failed to check out.

When police arrived at Gretchen’s home, they were unable to locate her. A neighbor informed them that she had heard screams at the residence the previous Saturday, including the sound of a woman yelling “No, no! It hurts.” Upon searching her residence, police found towels in her kitchen containing a “reddish substance” that appeared to be blood, as well as evidence of what appeared to be blood droplets in her bedroom.

According to the Anthonys’ friends, the couple had separated earlier this year, with Gretchen filing for divorce in February. Anthony is currently awaiting extradition to Palm Beach County, Florida."

Naw... let the fucker rot in a Mexican jail. Don't waste the money and resources to bring him back.
Lazy reporting/editing. He was arrested in las Cruces, New Mexico.

Can't think of a better way to rouse suspicions than by claiming someone is being detained & sedated by the CDC! Or texting "I'm on a ventilator".

The Jupiter man who investigators say killed his estranged wife and dumped her remains in a previously unknown location pleaded guilty to lesser charges Monday morning.

In exchange for the plea, David Anthony told authorities where the remains of Gretchen Anthony have been located for the last nine months, about 3 miles from her Abacoa home.

David Anthony, 44, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and kidnapping before Circuit Judge Jeffrey Gillen in connection to Gretchen Anthony's March 21 disappearance.

After hours of searching Monday, investigators found the remains of what they believe are the 51-year-old mother near Bush Road and Indiantown Road, Jupiter Police Chief Daniel Kerr said during a news conference that evening.

A Jupiter man who pleaded guilty to murdering his estranged wife last year was sentenced to more than three decades behind bars on Thursday.

David Anthony, 44, will serve a 38-year prison sentence, with credit for 295 days of time already served, after confessing in December to killing Gretchen Anthony.
"I disgraced my family and brought shame upon my name," David Anthony tearfully told Judge Kirk Volker in court on Thursday. "There is no excuse for what I have done."
Authorities said David Anthony pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and kidnapping and revealed the location of his wife's remains.

Investigators said, at this point, they don't know how Gretchen Anthony was killed.

David Anthony said in court Thursday his wife was someone who "brought light into this dark world."
"Instead of being a man, I tried to be a coward," David Anthony said. "I can't get her life back. I can't fix this."
David Anthony was arrested in New Mexico last year and charged with murder and kidnapping after his wife was last seen on March 20, police said.

According to detectives, one neighbor told them that on March 21 between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., "she heard a woman's voice let out a blood curdling scream" and she heard a woman yelling, "No! No it hurts!"

At least five people received "suspicious" text messages that were allegedly from Gretchen Anthony on March 23 and 24, saying she was infected with an "acute case" of COVID-19.
