Investigators said a 12-year-old boy was starved and tortured for months before he was taken to the hospital on Jan. 12.

A nurse reported a case of potential child neglect because he was malnourished, weighing only 47 pounds, according to Lincoln police.

Officials said the boy was then transferred to Children's Nebraska.

Investigators said they believe he was not only starved, but also tortured for months.

Angela Lowe, 46, who is no longer the boy's legal guardian, was arrested on several charges, including child abuse and first-degree assault.

On Tuesday, police also arrested Lowe's husband, 44-year-old Joseph Lowe, and 20-year-old daughter Makenzie Watkins.

Both were arrested for first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and false imprisonment.
