Another situation of mom's live-in killing her child. It took 2 months for police to arrest this POS

COGGON - Skylar Inman's cause of death was due to non-accidental multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities also say they are not releasing the 911 call due to the ongoing investigation.

Linn County authorities says a 23-year old Coggon man killed a two-year old child he was living with.

The alleged murder happened back on July 11th. Someone at two-year old Skylar Inman's home called 911 after the little girl stopped breathing and became unresponsive. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids where she later died.

Police arrested Lee James Muldoon on Tuesday for first degree murder and child endangerment causing death, two months after it all happened.

The sheriff's office says Muldoon is not her father.

Muldoon is being held for Linn County at the Jones County jail without bond and scheduled to appear in a Jones County courtroom Wednesday morning for his initial hearing on those charges.

No one answered the door at the family's home on Tuesday, but TV9 did talk to several family members. Everyone declined to comment. Neighbors did say that Muldoon was a nice person who kept to himself.

Iowa court records online show Muldoon has a long rap sheet. His past crimes include assaults and it shows he went to a state juvenile facility as a teenager.

The mother of a two-year-old girl who died from blunt force injuries in July 2008 has been arrested.

Nineteen-year-old Brianna Volesky was arrested Tuesday at a house in Swisher and charged with child endangerment causing death and neglect of her child Skylar Inman.
.....
These latest charges accuse the mother of neglect, and say she allowed Muldoon to abuse her daughter over a couple of months.

Investigators say the mother also gave different reasons for her daughter's injuries, and tried to conceal the abuse.

She is now being held on $500,000 bond.

Her former boyfriend, Muldoon, is currently awaiting trail for murder. His trial is scheduled for June 1.

No trial date has been set for Volesky.

SWISHER - Brianna Volesky, 19, was arrested here Tuesday on suspicion of child endangerment causing death and neglect of a child.

Her arrest was the result of a Linn County Sheriff's Office investigation into the July 2008 death of her daughter, 2-year-old Skylar Inman.

Authorities believe Skylar died of blunt-force injuries she suffered at the Coggon home of Volesky and her boyfriend, Lee Muldoon.

Muldoon, 24, was charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment causing death last September in the incident. He pleaded not guilty in October. He's awaiting his June trial at the Anamosa State Penitentiary.

Linn County Sheriff's deputies were called at 10:45 p.m. July 11 to 311 Third St. in Coggon because Skylar was found unresponsive and not breathing. Skylar was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she died the next day from her injuries.

Family members previously told The Gazette that Volesky and Skylar's father, William "Bobby" Inman broke up while Volesky was still in high school. Muldoon acted as Skylar's father and Volesky was pregnant with his child, friends and family members said in September.

On Tuesday, Volesky, a 2008 graduate of Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, was taken to the Jones County Jail, where she was awaiting an initial appearance in court.

Sudden Illness? Tells me right there the family backs the asshole up....I would have put she was beat to death by my asshole boyfriend.

I thought he was not the father but in the obit it names him and all of his family! this is just sad my sons name is Skyler and his b-day is sept.25th 2005...I cant imagine!

Just sick, a disgrace that her killer's name is listed in her obit. He may have been present in her life and he may be the only father she had ever known, but he is no father. Actually I would see it fit to not have either "parent" listed on her obit. The stepfather killed her, mother allowed the abuse, they are guilty as sin and have no right to be listed next to her name.

They never deserved such a sweet one like you Skylar. I am so very sorry, that those who should have cherished you, failed and brought you misery and death. May damnation be their fate.

Be at peace little one, now with the angels.

Testimony of four possible state witnesses was presented in a hearing Thursday to determine if they will be admissible in the Oct. 5, first-degree murder trial of Muldoon, 24, of Coggon.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Marsha Bergan didn’t make a ruling today. She will make a written ruling.

Karissa Inman, 21, sister of Bobby Inman, Skylar’s father, testified Skylar acted differently on her last visit with her family in Peoria, a few weeks before she was killed. Skylar, who was potty trained, refused to go to the bathroom and wet the bed every night and had accidents throughout the day.

Inman said she became upset and cried when she attempted to take Skylar to the bathroom and when she attemped to give her a bath, which she normally enjoyed.

Skylar also became “whiny and would “cling to her.”

Alicia Huenefeld, step-sister of Skylar’s mother Brianna Volesky, said she saw a large bruise on Skylar’s pelvis a few weeks before her death. It was size of a man’s fist. When asked if her mom hit her or Muldoon hit her, she finally said Muldoon hit her, Huenefeld said.

Muldoon is accused of killing Skylar, who died from blunt force injuries, July 11, 2008 at his and Volesky’s Coggon home. Muldoon also faces a child endangerment causing death charge and Volesky, 19, is charged with child endangerment causing death and will stand trial Oct. 19.

What a sweet-faced apple-cheeked little girl...I cannot understand how you can hit a baby like that.

It's just incomprehensible to me.

Sudden illness my fat white ass. Who the fuck wrote that obituary? The kid was fucking murdered, plain and simple. To state anything less in her obituary is adding insult to injury.

A 19-year-old woman pleaded guilty in Linn County District Court to neglect of a child and involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 2-year-old daughter in 2008.
[...]

Brianna Volesky, crying, admitted to the elements of the crime saying she exposed Skylar to a hazard or danger which she couldn’t defend herself. She left Skylar in Muldoon’s care from May through July 11, while they lived together in Coggon, and allowed Skylar to suffer alleged repeated abuse from him.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Nancy Baumgartner asked Volesky if numerous bruises were found on Skylar after being in Muldoon’s care.

Volesky, voice quivering, said yes.

The lesser charges were offered to Volesky contingent upon her testifying against Muldoon in the May 3 trial, Assistant Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks said. Maybanks will dismiss the child endangerment charge against Volesky if she testifies, no matter if Muldoon is convicted or found innocent.

Maybanks said he also intends to ask the court at sentencing to run the two sentences consecutively, which is 15 years. The maximum prison term for neglect of a child is 10 years and five years on involuntary manslaughter.

Maybanks asked that sentencing not be set until after the Muldoon trial.

He's in jail with no bond. Doesn't really make a difference. At least he's in the local jail and not a cushy prison cell or walking around free.

I would rather see the prosecution get it right and be done with it than go forward when folks are not prepared.

I never even knew this was here in the forums...I know these people. I knew Skylar. I worked with her mother and was actually really close to her. I was close to all the kids who worked with me. I was kind of like a second mom to them. I was at Skylars funeral. I couldn't even walk up to see her . It took me an hour to get up the courage and when I finally made it to her casket I broke down. I talked to Bri a lot after Skylar died. I asked lots of questions believe me I wasn't soft on her at all. I tried not to judge and to be there for her but ...I talked about it once in Caylee Chat but never mentioned any names..

I went to a court hearing with Bri. It was a hearing to separate their trials. I wanted to punch them both in the face. He was sitting there all smug and I glanced up at Bri and do you know what I saw?? I saw casey anthony...The same body language, the same kind of look...That was pretty much the last time I talked to her. She did come see me at my job once with her dad... She gave me her number but I never called. She is one of my "friends" on my facebook.

Skylar was an awesome kid, so much fun to be around and I really thought Bri was a good mom. That was before she was with Lee. If anyone had asked me before this all happened how I felt about lee, I would have said I liked him, He was very polite and well spoken. Just goes to show you really don't know people at all... At least I didn't..

I can't believe I never saw this before. This must be a night of old memories for me... I just got a call from my 2 sisters I haven't talked to in 15 years, but that is for another thread...

Is this trhe young mom one you were talking about last yr??
I remember you saying you werent sure what to think of it all b/c mom was good mom

Also they have a baby together. another little girl. Last I knew the baby was in foster care. They arrested her after she had the baby... As a matter of fact they arrested her in the hospital.

All I want to know Rhoni, how'd you hold your ground in court? I would have punched the living day light out of this woman.

Sorry for your loss Rhoni as you knew little Skylar, and I don't know how well you knew this woman but if you were once friends, you lost that too.

Thank you Sliva,

Like I said Bri was like a daughter to me. I felt like she needed me. I was still on the fence up until that hearing but once I saw the reaction from both of them I knew then and there they were both guilty as far as I was concerned. They were talking about doing their trials together and talked a little about Skylar... I started crying. I looked up and lee was looking all smug and Bri was glaring at lee... Neither showed any emotion at the mention of Skylars name. I swear to you my very thought was how she reminded me of casey....That was pretty much the end of that relationship....

I have to tell you I would question bri a lot...I told her if she thought I was being cold wait till they had her up on the stand. I don't know it is all pretty surreal kind of like watching a movie or something. That doesn't even describe it. Remember this was all during the Caylee thing so it made it twice as hard. I made a lot of comments in Caylee Chat about it actually.

Volesky pleaded guilty to neglect of a child and involuntary manslaughter. She originally was charged with child endangerment causing death. Acceptance of her plea is contingent upon her testifying against Muldoon.

I am planning on being there.

Sudden Illness? Tells me right there the family backs the asshole up....I would have put she was beat to death by my asshole boyfriend.

In no way am I defending anyone, but it is the norm (at least here in NY) for the funeral home that is hosting the funeral to write an obituary. If you notice (as sadly I read an AWFUL lot of obituaries) that they are mostly all the same. I believe they have a template of sorts that they follow, as it would be pretty hard to write original ones for every person that, for lack of better wording, comes through their door.

Case in point, my father-in-law committed suicide in 2005 and they put in his obit that he passed suddenly at home. That being said, i think everyone is in need of a little 'wtf' moment. I read this obit a while back and nearly lol'd coffee out of my nose:

"Dolores Aguilar, born in 1929 in New Mexico, left us on Aug. 7, 2008.
Dolores had no hobbies, made no contribution to society and rarely
shared a kind word or deed in her life. I speak for the majority of
her family when I say her presence will not be missed by many, very
few tears will be shed and there will be no lamenting over her
passing.

"Her family will remember Dolores and amongst ourselves we will
remember her in our own way, which were mostly sad and troubling times
throughout the years. We may have some fond memories of her and
perhaps we will think of those times, too. But I truly believe at the
end of the day all of us will really only miss what we never had, a
good and kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I hope she is
finally at peace with herself. As for the rest of us left behind, I
hope this is the beginning of a time of healing and learning to be a
family again.

"There will be no service, no prayers and no closure for the family
she spent a lifetime tearing apart. We cannot come together in the end
to see to it that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren can say
their goodbyes. So I say here for all of us, goodbye Mom."

Good LORD I hope I never piss off my children!

She kind of looks like Casey Anthony too. Damn, the devil twins.

Honestly D I never saw anything in her that would point to this personality I saw later...I hope that made sense. She was a typical teenager. Actually as far as that went I thought she was more mature and had it together more than most her age. I guess it just goes to show you never really know a person. I am pretty good at reading people too so to miss a personality disorder like this in someone I had a lot of contact with blows my mind.

I couldn't believe the shot they got of her there. She looks completely evil. I have to say evil is not a word I would have ever used to describe Bri..

Sometimes our guards are down and we don't even realize it. No one is completely capable of knowing the true nature of a person, or what that person is or is not capable of. Don't feel bad, hurt or upset about it. You weren't 'duped' or anything. She obviously snapped mentally, and as you said in an above post, all you are really seeing of her in court now is a shell of the friend she once was to you.
