An arrest report has revealed more about what happened before a dog was thrown into a dumpster last week.
According to Las Vegas police, Alexis Flores, 30, was caught on home surveillance video getting rid of a small tan Chihuahua after finding a dumpster near his home on March 14.
Detectives from Metro’s animal cruelty division received information about the abuse a day later when the dog was rescued from the dumpster by a homeowner across the street.
On March 16, detectives began canvassing the neighborhood to search for answers. Metro said they spoke with hundreds of people to see if they recognized the vehicle or Flores.
In a police interview, Alexis fully admits to what he did on the surveillance video.
He said the morning started by taking his girlfriend to work. He then came home to let the dogs out, and that’s when Marley ran away. Flores explained that he went on a hunt for the dog. Every time he would try to grab Marley, he would take off from him again. At one point, Alexis fell to the ground, which made him angry. The report said Flores spent 45 minutes dealing with Marley.
Flores told detectives his young daughter was playing with Marley once they got home. He goes on to say, his daughter would sometimes play rough with the dog by pulling on his tail or petting him roughly. Flores says his daughter did just that the morning the dog disappeared. He said the dog “nibbed” his daughter during the interaction with Marley.
That’s when he decided to put the dog in the car and eventually throw it in the dumpster, he explained to detectives.
Alexis said Marley is “so annoying and frustrating, that he decided to teach him a lesson.” He admitted that his mindset was not to kill the dog and said he is just tired of always caring for the “bad dog,” the report said.
Alexis said he went back the next day to retrieve the dog from the dumpster, but Marley was already gone.
