According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Zachary Rollins was arrested Saturday following a report of a domestic incident at a home in Somerset.
Deputies say they were told Rollins allegedly bit the cat’s ears off.
Investigators say they were shown photos and video evidence of the incident, along with messages from Rollins. In one message to a family member, Rollins allegedly claimed he bit the cat because it had bitten him first.
Rollins was taken into custody and charged with torture of a dog or cat, a felony under Kentucky law.
Bunny the cat was taken to Sheabel Veterinary Hospital in Lexington, where they learned of other injuries the cat had received.
“She had two broken legs, and her ears had teeth marks on them. Pretty nasty and infected. She was pregnant. Recently, I’d say, in the last week or so,” said Dr. Michelle Jude, Sheabel Veterinary Hospital.
Kentucky man accused of biting cat’s ears off
A Pulaski County man is facing animal cruelty charges after deputies say he abused a cat during a domestic dispute.
The citation states that officers responded to a residence on Skyview Drive for a "reported domestic dispute in progress." While en route, the officer notes being made aware that "the caller's boyfriend was intoxicated and had bit the caller's cat's ears off."
According to the citation, when the officer arrived on the scene, the suspect, identified by police as Zachary Rollins, was "laying in bed attempting to hide under blankets on the bed."
The officer, according to an arrest citation, then asked Rollins to step outside and speak with him, but Rollins reportedly refused. As a result, the officer says he detained Rollins and took him outside.
The citation notes that the caller then showed the officer pictures of the injured cat as well as "Facebook messages from Rollins to his mother stating he had bit a cat's ear off because it had bit him first."
According to the citation, the officer then spoke to Rollins, who admitted to sending messages to a family member and stated that "he had not bit the cat, but he had tossed it when it bit him."
Rollins was arrested and charged with torture of a dog or cat.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, after Rollins' arrest, a warrant was filed for a separate incident involving the death of two other cats in April 2025. As a result, Rollins was charged with two additional counts of torture of a dog or cat.

A Pulaski County man was arrested and is facing animal torture charges after he allegedly "bit a cat's ear off," according to an arrest citation.
The cat will not be returned to Rollin's girlfriend or him.
Pointing to x-rays, Dr. Jude explained that the cat’s front legs were broken, and she suspects the injuries are due to the cat being thrown. Jude had just put a splint on one leg, and tomorrow, the other leg will need a pin inserted.
“She’s just one of the sweetest cats in the world, and it's unfortunate that somebody mistreated her,” said Jude.
The veterinarian told LEX 18 that she plans to watch the case against Rollins play out. With the 2024 passage of Ethan’s Law, Rollins faces felony charges.
As for the cat, affectionately named “Bunny” for her now unique ears, she’ll be returned to Hope for All Pets, Inc. (HAPI) once she's in better health.
