The investigation began on May 12 when the George County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received a referral from Child Protective Services about allegations of physical and sexual abuse of two minors. Investigators identified the Newburns as suspects.

A search of their residence turned up multiple guns, the sheriff’s office said.

The Newburns were arrested Thursday and booked into the George County Regional Correctional Facility.

According to authorities, Kenneth Newburn was previously convicted of third-degree robbery in Mobile County.
Kenneth Newburn was granted a $150,000 bond for each of five counts of sexual battery and a $50,000 bond for one count of grooming, the sheriff’s office said. He is also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
