Justin M. Fenton, 31, was arrested on Monday after troopers said a child under his care died after being exposed to a deadly drug that he had left within the child’s reach.
Fenton’s charges come after troopers were called to a home on South Way in the town of Newfield on June 30 for the report of an unconscious four-year-old child not breathing, and suffering from cardiac arrest, the release said. The child was then taken to Cayuga Medical Center, where he was declared dead, the release explained.
Further, an autopsy revealed that the four-year-old child’s death was caused by fentanyl toxicity, the release stated. An investigation that followed showed that Fenton’s drug use at the time recklessly exposed the child to a lethal dose of fentanyl, causing his death, the release said.
