According to the indictment, Joshua Louis Gamble did “willfully abuse or cruelly beat” the child, who was 14 at the time.
The indictment goes on to point out that Gamble hit the child in the face with his “fist and/or a belt,” which resulted in breaking her nose.
Detective Drew Harless said the incident occurred Sept. 17 at Gamble’s residence while the girl was visiting Gamble and his parents.
According to police, the girl said Gamble was angry because she would not make him any Kool-Aid to drink.
According to the arrest complaint, when she refused Gamble “grabbed her by the shirt” and “threw her” into the kitchen sink, hurting her hip.
“The girl said (Gamble) started hitting her in the face with a belt,” Harless said.
Harless said the girl said Gamble struck her in the nose with the belt buckle or his fist, "she didn’t know which.”
Reports indicate after the incident, Gamble took the child home. Harless said the child's mother took her to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. The mother reported the incident to police.
