A man who allegedly bruised his son and left his shoe print on the boy's forehead and the boy's mother, who allegedly threatened to kill the boy if he told, were indicted Thursday by a Dona Ana County grand jury on child abuse charges.

Jeffrey Charles Putnam Jr., 23 , and Melissa Lopez-Putnam, 28, of Las Cruces remain jailed at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

Las Cruces police detectives began their investigation after the 7-year-old arrived at school two weeks ago and apparently told school officials he was afraid to go home. Detectives learned that Jeffrey Putnam allegedly punched the boy the night before and placed his foot on the boy's head and neck. In photographs, bruising on the boy's head and neck matched the Lugz boots Jeffrey Putnam was wearing when he was interviewed by detectives.

The boy was also allegedly thrown to the ground, kicked, punched repeatedly, and then had his face slammed into a table, causing the child to bleed, as his father allegedly yelled profanities at him, according to Putnam's bond information form. The alleged beating took place in front of the boy's four younger siblings.

Putnam was arrested for criminal domestic violence in 2007 in South Carolina. On his MySpace profile, he lists, among his heroes, "My children, who see life through innocent eyes" and describes himself as a "Father, Husband, and ass****, in that order." On Lopez-Putnam's MySpace profile, she describes herself as a mother of seven children.

Investigators also believe Melissa Lopez-Putnam knew of her husband's actions but failed to report the incident and threatened the boy with violence if he told anyone.

It would make him about 15 or 16 when baby was born and sadly this day and age that is not a far streatch he probably is the father. babies having babies.
 
The man who fathered my niece (who will turn 14 at the end of the month) was in my grade and turned 16 just a couple of weeks before she was born (and my sister was 17), so it is possible.

And SEVEN children by age 28? Good grief!

Their son who was beaten....little Gideon, he reminds me much of my own son who is 6yo. I am very happy, very fortunate, as are my boys that they have a father that would never hurt them. I trust that more than I have ever trusted most anything. Still, if something like this happened, a permanent shoe mark to his face would just be the beginning of his misery.

This mother is not a mother. She is only thinking of her penis and what she gets from that, which IMO isn't much except the little treasures she bore. Sad, very sad. Get your shit together woman, he isn't worth the paper you wipe your ass with. This child beater, this asshole should get it snipped and, this woman corked already. Since we are so pathetic...explain please the justification for having the imprint of a shoe on the head and neck of a 7 yr old child? Even if by some strange chance the story was "blown out of proportion" as you claim, I have never had my children taken or charges filed for something as horrible as this. The police or political candidates do not just randomly go to someones home and create cases of abuse for publicity. Maybe you should use your brain and stand up for the safety of these children!

Well, if the school and law enforcement have pictures that confirm the abuse, I don't think we need the whole story. But, if you would like to grace us with your oh so great "whole story," then please, be our guest.
 
I know I get my opinion from what I read and it is the quote of the news story. If someone wants me to change my opinion about what I read then the news story needs to change. Now it is in print or the lc-sunnews would be getting sued for libel. My opinion on this story is he is an asshole that shouldn't be around children and she is a cunt for not protecting her son from this sociopath. She should also be fixed because she is just a baby machine - 7 children and only 28 - I had my first child at 27. She obviously doesn't have her priorities right when it comes to choosing between her children and her testicle bag.
 
A few weekends ago, I was at my sisters house and her trashy neighbors kid was playing with Cason. This 4 year old proceeded to kick my 2 year old in the face and in the back of his head. My sister sent him home and yelled to the baby farm he calls a mother that she needed to give him a spankin. Said baby farm proceeded to yell profanities and start an all out white trash riot. She then proceeded to look me straight in the eye and tell me that she was going to kick my 2 year old in the face but only after she was done stomping on me. And I thought that was the only incident I would ever hear of where an ADULT wants to/ or does kick a child in the face.

I'd like to say I kicked her ass but alas that is not the case :/ I have a wee bit more class than that but thats only because 4 grown men had to hold me back and I had to remind myself that no one would be able to take care of my kids if I sat my ass in jail.

That being said - damn I would like to get ahold of these two and throw the baby farm in there with them. This is fucking pathetic....And for some idiot to come here in their defense and say we have shit wrong? How dare you motherfucker! So, I'll move on and address your statements, instead. How can you be "100 percent sure" that none of us know the whole story? Pray tell, what IS the whole story? How can a child with a boot-print on his head possibly be blown out of proportion? What excuse could there be for the boot-print and the subsequent events that unfolded? The child purposefully imprinted himself with the boot-print in an elaborate ruse to remove his father from the home? I call bullshit. What the fuck does Ms. Martinez's run for office have to do with anything that happened to the child? Did she tiptoe into the house and steal the father's boots and hurt the child herself? Again, I call bullshit.

I suggest you tell your "reliable source" to put up or shut up. Prove the news story wrong. Personally, I think that one person (who supports an abuser and the wet hole he is attached to) spouting off about how Ms. Martinez running for office caused all this is not a reliable source.

More to the point,if you know the true story than what is it?
How exactly did shoe prints end up on this poor child? Why would he say his mother threatned to kill him if he told anyone? And why would he tell school staff he was terrified to go home?
Bottom line, unless evidence comes out to show otherwise, we KNOW the story. This child was beaten and abused by the two people who were supposed to love and protect him the most.
Coming here and insulting us is NOT going to sway us to your side. Do us a favor and go defend your child abusing friends elsewhere. We won't stand for it.
