23-year-old Isaac Carrillo is facing a first-degree murder charge after his 4-month-old daughter died from injuries that doctors say were consistent with abuse.
On Saturday, just after midnight, Oklahoma City police responded to a call from Carrillo, who claimed his daughter fell off the couch and was unresponsive.
"When officers arrived, the child was in full arrest. They started CPR," said Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Journey Carrillo was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had eye hemorrhaging and a brain bleed, injuries they stated "could only receive those injuries from abuse."
Three days after being hospitalized, the child died.
Initially arrested for child abuse, Carrillo's charges are expected to be amended to first-degree murder.
Police indicated that charges against the baby's mother are unlikely, as Carrillo was reportedly alone with the child when the injuries occurred.
Court records show Carrillo pleaded guilty to multiple counts of child abuse in 2020 for hitting his 3-month-old and 3-year-old children because they were crying.
