Two Illinois residents have been arrested on animal cruelty charges after officers found three dead dogs and multiple malnourished ones last month at a home outside Chicago.

Emily Chesterfield, 27, surrendered to police after her initial misdemeanor count of cruel treatment to animals was upgraded to felony aggravated animal cruelty, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A deputy with the Kane County Sheriff’s Department found the remains of a small dog in a garbage bag outside Chesterfield’s home in St. Charles Township after being called there for a hoarding case on May 30.

After Chesterfield let the deputy inside the house, the deputy found two other dead dogs and nine “malnourished” dogs, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The dogs were confiscated by Kane County Animal Control. Chesterfield has been released on a $500 bond.

William Chesterfield was charged with two misdemeanor counts of failure to supply proper food and water. It was unclear if the Chesterfields are cousin fuckers.

Last Thursday, the sheriff’s office went back to the property with a search warrant and found a bearded dragon and another neglected dog, which animal control also confiscated.

In total, 11 dogs who were “malnourished and in poor health” were found on the property.

I can only imagine what her “explanation” will be: “I was overwhelmed/tired/broke/they-weren’t-my-responsibility/it-wasn’t-me-it-was-the-one-armed-man” crap.
It would be fitting to put her in isolation for a few years. Then she would truly understand what torture feels like.

This made my fucking day.

She obviously NEVER misses a meal or snack.. food pantries and vets pass out donated or excess food free to lower income pet owners here..
Even without that, most dogs will literally eat anything, from ant baits to expired meat from your freezer to old diapers. If a dog starves to death, it's because their owner wanted them to.

I caught it too Way to go Sugar !!!!!
You nailed it perfect --> """ It was unclear if the Chesterfields are cousin fuckers. """
for second, thought she may be related to Uncle Fester f/ Adams Family - she got the black eye thing going.
She got enough green backs to do her hair ( all curly & clean looking) but not enough love or give a f*ck to take care of her own animals. Simple > She needs to starve to death slowly

Either she’s part raccoon or related to cousin Fester. I think she should be caged and fed once every other week

A woman accused of maltreating 14 dogs, three of which died, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Emily Chesterfield accepted a sentence of 24 months of probation and two days in jail.

A felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty was dropped.
In May 2020, authorities responded to an animal-hoarding call in the 7N100 block of West Drive. A Kane County Animal Control officer smelled, then found, a dead dog decomposing in a trash bag outside. There was another dead dog outside and a dead dog inside. Chesterfield also owned a bearded dragon.
Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Brandon Raney said 11 surviving dogs were emaciated.
But, he said, Chesterfield did not deliberately hurt the dogs, Raney said. Malicious intent is required for a felony aggravated cruelty conviction, he said.

Raney said people had abandoned some of the dogs with Chesterfield. Others were born there because she did not spay or neuter the animals.
"She recognized she was in over her head. There was no specific malicious intent" to mistreat the animals, Raney said.

A court-ordered psychological evaluation showed she had hoarding disorder and anxiety. Raney said she developed the mental health problems due to having severe trauma as a crime victim as a young child.
Chesterfield cannot have any pets during probation -- including reptiles, birds and fish -- and Kane County Animal Control is to check her home once a month to make sure of that. She also has to give $1,000 to the Anderson Humane animal shelter, have another psychological evaluation, and undergo counseling with a hoarding-disorder specialist. If she violates probation, she could be resentenced to up to one year in jail.

"I'm very disappointed about what I did, and I am taking steps to make sure it never happens again," Chesterfield told Kane County Judge Alice Tracy.
