New court records outline an Indianapolis woman’s apparent attempts to suffocate a 1-year-old child.

According to a preliminary affidavit for probable cause filed on Monday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a residence around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday to take a report on a child molesting incident.
When police arrived at the scene, they located 37-year-old Kendra Lee Proctor, one adult witness and one juvenile witness. The adult witness told police Proctor had just sat on a 1-year-old child’s face while naked from the waist down.

The adult witness also told police that she and Proctor had been watching a “Godly” movie in the leadup to the incident. The adult witness added that Proctor began behaving strangely and started asking unusual questions once the movie ended.
The adult witness went on to tell police that, a short time after the movie ended, she went to check on the 1-year-old child in question. During that check, she found Proctor sitting on the child’s face without any pants or underwear on. The adult witness indicated that the child was “screaming bloody murder” when Proctor sat on her face.

While speaking with police, the adult witness said she “beat the f*** out of” Proctor after she found her sitting on the child’s face.
Medics were called to the scene to check out the child. After an examination at the Baltimore Avenue residence the incident happened at, the child was released from medics’ care.
Police detained Proctor at the scene and read her the Miranda Warning. After Proctor advised she understood her rights, she told police she had attempted to suffocate the 1-year-old.

Officers transported the witnesses and Proctor to an IMPD facility for an interview. During that interview, police asked the adult witness to specify some of the strange things Proctor said during the incident.
The adult witness claimed Proctor said “I thought this is what you wanted me to do” and “this is what I’m supposed to do.” The adult witness said Proctor also told her she could have a better life. Police learned that Proctor may be schizophrenic during their conversation with one of the witnesses.
As their investigation continued, police suspected Proctor may have molested the juvenile witness. In an interview with police, the juvenile witness initially indicated that she had not been touched inappropriately by Proctor.
During their investigation, however, police reviewed audio and video captured by devices inside the car of the officer who transported the two witnesses from the residence on Baltimore Avenue to an IMPD facility for interviews.

The materials captured by the car revealed a conversation between the two witnesses. During that conversation, the juvenile witness told the adult witness that Proctor had touched her inappropriately. The juvenile witness also indicated that Proctor told her to “open her legs.”
Audio captured by technology in the officer’s car also picked up the juvenile witness telling the adult witness that Proctor covered her mouth “to sacrifice her.”

Proctor agreed to do an interview with police during the investigation. In that interview, Proctor admitted that she tried to suffocate and kill the child.
Police reported that Proctor told them she tried to kill the child so the adult witness involved in the incident would kill her. Per the affidavit, Proctor “couldn’t give a coherent answer” when police asked her to elaborate further on her reasoning for trying to kill the 1-year-old.
As their interview continued, Proctor told police her decision to sit on the child’s face had sexual intent. When police asked her more about her sexual motivations, Proctor said sitting on the child’s face would help her get money. Proctor did not provide any further insight on how sitting on the child’s face would result in monetary gain for her.

Officers also asked Proctor if she said or did anything inappropriate to the juvenile witness. Proctor then admitted that she told the juvenile witness she “would stick her finger up her butt if (the juvenile witness) didn’t stop saying crazy s*** to her.” Proctor also told police that she had, indeed, made statements about how she would sacrifice the juvenile witness.
