Bullet Ant, Tarantulas, Centipedes from Peru's jungles.

Authorities at a Peruvian Airport noticed a portly man trying to depart to South Korea VIA France.

He was instructed to lift up his shirt so they could have a look at his suspicious, enormous and lumpy belly.

So he did, and underneath,
"Upon inspection, officials found two belts wrapped around his body, each holding hidden pouches packed with live insects. Wildlife specialists later cataloged the smuggled cargo, identifying 35 large tarantulas, 285 smaller tarantulas, 110 centipedes, and nine bullet ants*."

"The adult tarantulas, described as the size of a human hand, were stored in plastic containers, while the juveniles were crammed into narrow tubes sealed at both ends to prevent them from escaping."

They've been taken to a wildlife rehabbery where that bad man can never find them.

*Bullet Ants give the most painful bite. Your bones hurt.
"People who have been stung by this ant say that its bite feels like a bullet wound, or even like a 3-inch burning rusty nail in your heel; the pain can last for 24 or more hours, and a person may need 2 weeks to recover from a single sting."

It paralyzes the area affected.

"...the insect will drop down through the air onto an enemy to join in the fight..."
"Once the sting is in the victim, the ant pumps venom from a small gland in its abdomen."

Do these need to be spread around the world? No. I'm glad he was caught.

If there's no legal avenue and he has to smuggle them to where he's going, then there's a damm good reason for it. Even small, harmless species can wreak irreversible havoc on an ecosystem.

I wonder if that's why they call it the butterfly effect.

Bugs don't bother me much, tho I'm guessing those large as a hand, tarantulas might. My sister, who's a rural mail carrier, threatens to set the mail box on fire when she finds a granddaddy long legs in one. If it was one of those tarantulas, about as big as a rat, no telling what she'd do.

This gave Me chills all over, just thinking about them crawling on me!
I was just imagining being 20k feet in the air, comfy in my window seat, mesmerized by the beautiful view...hearing weird crinkle noises coming from the sleeping man beside me...Oh, what could that be? What is that tickle on my arm? Take a look over and 200+ mf-ing tarantulas are escaping, just exploding out from under his shirt.

Coming soon to a theater near you... the far, FAR more horrifying reboot to Snakes on a Plane!
