I can't wait to see this. If it's anywhere near as funny as Shaun of the Dead than I will like it. I'm still waiting for Spaced to come out on DVD in the USA.

Yeah, I am really looking forward to this. I used it as a test as well. If you click on the Calendar, I have it listed there as an event with a link back to this thread. I also like that it has a Reminder option as well.

I get one day off at the end of tax season. The partners took yesterday off. I took Friday off. Why? To go see Hot Fuzz. I'm stoked!

I got talked out of going to see this on Friday night, but I did go see it tonight. I was determined, and I'm glad I made the effort. It is riotously funny, viciously violent and disgustingly gory. In other words, I LOVE it. I can't praise this film enough.

Seriously, if you want to fuck with someone you know that gets grossed out easily, take them to see this and sell it as a buddy cop flick. They'll never be the wiser.

And FYI, AnalBreeze, the theater I was in was fairly packed, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that a good opening weekend might lead to wider release. Regardless, if you have the chance, I highly recommend seeing this on the big screen for full effect.

I got the chance to see this. It was hysterical. A bit different than I was expecting but I loved the unexpected horror element. There were a few very, very young kids at the showing I went to so I'm not sure how that went over though.

Sadly, there weren't many people there at all considering it is opening weekend. Estimates show that it came in at a low #6 with just $5.84M. :(

Ah, but wait!

CNN said:
The buddy-cop comedy "Hot Fuzz," released by Focus Features' Rogue Pictures unit, had a strong start in narrower release, premiering at No. 6 with $5.8 million in 825 theaters, about a third the number of cinemas where "Fracture" and "Vacancy" played.

"Hot Fuzz" comes from the "Shaun of the Dead" team of director Edgar Wright and his co-writer and star Simon Pegg, who plays a London super-cop exiled to a sleepy British town, where he encounters a series of grisly deaths.
It could have been worse. I'm a hopeful optimist.

And I want to punch the dude for not including Nick in the "team." Apparently, the reviewer has never seen Spaced, otherwise he would have known that Simon and Nick made that show too (with Wright's directing of course).

Spoiler below
I also would have liked to have seen some cameos other than Cate Blancett and Peter Jackson. Where the hell is Peter Serafinowicz? Jessica Stevenson? I was glad to see Julie Deakin at least.

*EDIT* Off-topic. Sorry!

Ooooh! A spiffy "spoiler" tag! Cool! Just thought I'd point that out.

*Double Edit* And the double-post thing is quite righteous as well! It cuts down on the mods having to fuss at people (if we were the fussing type anyway).

That's a good point about it being in just one third of the theaters. Hopefully it will expand, but I'm not feeling like much of an optimist after the Grindhouse dibacle so I doubt it. Though I hope it does for the sake of the film (and AB :D).

It did just fine this weekend, it almost doubled the Average per screen than all the others in the top 10. so I think it will do fine!

Go to Box office Mojo and read the dumbass article someone wrote about putting this gore for nothing movie in perspective! after this weeks events at V-Tech we should boycott films like this!

Thanks McVain! I hope it expands also! This one I have a feeling it will!

Just got back from this film. I loved it. That's the second film from these guys that ranks up in to my favorites. I liked Shaun of the Dead better, but mostly because of subject matter.

This film had some great comedy as well, and the few gore shots were pretty damn cool.

I didn't know at the time I was watching it, as I had refused to read much about the film before I went to see it (I tend to not read peoples posts or reviews about certain movies that I plan on watching...not that I wont look at an overall rating like at Rottentomatoes, but just not the specifics) but I found out afterwards that one of the cultural jokes in the film that I missed was the police constantly eating ice cream and desserts. For those of you who may not know, that gag is akin to our digs at our police and their love of the donut.

Well, highly recommend it,

Another cultural thing that I think I noticed. When they got in to the safe, wasn't the code 999? Isn't that the emergency number for England/UK? Like our 911.

Did you ever get to see this AB?

it's playin' in a double feature with "The Host"
:D

Iowa State University has a campus town theater that plays
weird movies or movies that don't come around the BIG theaters!
I always look forward to seein' what they are playin' each week!
I saw Movies like "Donnie Darko", "High Tension", "Shaun of the Dead"
"Layer Cake" and "Night Watch" at this theater!

I enjoyed the film even though I felt the second act dragged on for a bit. I suppose it was all much needed groundwork for the HUGE action sequence that was the entire final arc of the story, but I felt it could of been spread out more evenly. I didn't find it as funny as Shaun of the Dead but I did let out a few chuckles here and there. I guess there was some English humor in there that American audiences wouldn't understand, which is kind of a cop out if you're making a parody of American action films, but as a whole it's worth a gander.

7/10

Well shit! Good news is I'm going to Hot Fuzz tomorrow night...
Bad news is I'm not seeing The Host after it!
Both films have a 7 PM start time with no late show, Only last weekend!

Good for you! I haven't seen The Host, but I can vouch for Hot Fuzz. See that one definitely! Ya gotta! (that is if you're waffling about which one to watch)

Thanks, I'm going to Hot Fuzz for sure and I can't wait!

IMDb User Rating: 8.4 out of 10 (With 26,851 votes) #102 of the Top 250

Anyway, I have The Host on DVD!
I just thought it would be cool to see it on the big screen, too!

Perhaps it would, but you won't be sorry! I give you my guarantee!

I'm actually going to see this again tonight with a girlfriend. She wants to see it, and I don't mind paying money to see it again. It's either that or 28WL or The Invisible, neither of which I'm anxious to see. *shrugs*

Due to a shortage of money, I wasn't able to watch this at the theater. However, I'll be buying the DVD when it's released at the end of the month because I do believe it's worthy of a blind-buy.
