An alleged beating with an electrical cord that left marks on a child’s face and back has resulted in a criminal charge against a Muskegon woman.

Raven Nicole Wright, 27, of Muskegon is charged with third-degree child abuse for the alleged beating involving an extension cord. The charge is a felony carrying a maximum two-year prison term.

The child told a Child Protective Services worker that Wright “whooped me with a cord,” the worker wrote in a court document.

“Raven also admitted this is not the first time she has physically managed (the child) with an extension cord,” the state worker wrote in the child abuse petition.

The worker wrote that the school-age child had “numerous marks” on the back, neck and face and was taken to the emergency room at Mercy Health Hackley Hospital, records show.
