Butte County Sheriff's Deputies say an Oroville woman has been arrested after an investigation revealed she was home when three children were molested. Detectives say they found evidence that Summer Carver, 33, of Oroville was home on multiple occasions when David Acuff molested three children and at least one occasion when Joshua Chadwick molested a child.


Five children have all been taken into protective custody based on the evidence. Carver was arrested for making a child available for the purpose of allowing lewd and lascivious acts to be committed on the child, three felony counts of child endangerment, one felony count of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, and two felony counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Chadwick and Acuff were arrested after an investigation revealed child pornography and evidence showing they sexually abused children, under 10 years old, for an extended period of time.

Through investigation, evidence was located showing the mother identified as 33-year-old Summer Carver, of Oroville, was present on several occasions when David Acuff molested the victims, according to detectives. Evidence also proved that Carver was present on one occasion when Joshua Chadwick molested one of the victims.

Detectives said it was determined Carver had a total of five children, Butte County Children's Services detained all children.

On the afternoon of July 13, Carver was placed under arrest and booked into the Butte County Jail, detectives said. She was arrested for three felony counts of making a child available for the purpose of allowing lewd and lascivious acts to be committed on the child, among others charges, according to the sheriff's report.

Her bail has been set at $825,000. She is scheduled to be arraigned at the Butte County Superior Court on Wednesday, July 15.

The problem with that is: the kids will either be placed with family members keep in mind often times the family is just like her. Or foster care and although there are some good foster parents, most are doing it for a check.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A man was found guilty of molesting two young sisters last year when they were 10-years-old and 7-years-old, Butte County District Attorney’s office said.

40-year-old Joshua Chadwick of Oroville was convicted of six separate counts of lewd and lascivious conduct involving the two girls.

The girls, their older siblings and their parents moved into Chadwick’s home last year after they moved out of Chadwick’s cousin’s home, David Acuff of Oroville.

Acuff, 38, is currently pending trial for his molestations of the same girls when they lived with Acuff.

In 2012, Chadwick was convicted of federal charges of possession of child pornography and sentenced to five years in federal prison.

At the trial, evidence produced child pornography showing the two sisters and was found in the possession of Chadwick. Federal prosecutors are working to prosecute Chadwick for this, which could add 50 years in federal prison, Ramsey said.

Chadwick is in custody with no bail and faces up to 43 years to life in state prison. His sentencing hearing is on May 5.

The mother of the girls, 36-year-old Summer Carver, pleaded guilty to four counts of Procuring a Child to Engage in a Lewd Act and four counts of felony Child Abuse as she knowingly made her children available to Chadwick and Acuff.

Carver is facing 19 years and 4 months in state prison. She will be sentenced on April 28.

David Lee Acuff, 38, has been sentenced to 24 years in state prison for lewd acts upon a child under 14 and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, according to the Butte County Superior Court.

Joshua Chadwick, 40, was also involved in the molestation of two of the victims. He was found guilty on six counts of lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14.

Chadwick was sentenced to 150 years to life in state prison on May 26.

Summer Carver, 33, of Oroville was present on several occasions when Acuff molested the victims and on one occasion with Chadwick.

Carver was found guilty of four counts of procuring a child under 16 to engage in lewd acts and four counts of child abuse likely to produce great bodily harm/death.

She was sentenced to 19 years and fourth months in state prison on May 26.
