Per Fox News:

A hacking group called USDoD claims to have stolen 2.7 billion records of personal information from Americans, including their Social Security numbers and physical addresses.

USDoD offered to sell the stolen records, which included personal data for everyone in the US, UK, and Canada, to a forum of hackers.

The data was stolen from National Public Data, a platform that offers personal information to employers, private investigators, staffing agencies and others doing background checks.

Does not appear to be bullshit.

National Public Data did not offer a direct remedy on its website, but instead suggested that monitor your credit report and stay in contact with the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

it is also suggest that you freeze your credit card if you think you have been victimized by the National Public Data breach.

But uh, doesn't it sound like all Americans are affected? The whole country is supposed to swarm the credit reporting agencies with requests? When you ask for your credit report, I think it actually lowers your score or something like that?

Welp.
