A Daytona Beach baby has been hospitalized with eight fractured ribs, a skull fracture, brain swelling and bruises, according to authorities. Two people now face charges of aggravated child neglect in connection with the injuries.

According to Daytona Beach police, Gladys Vasquez and Jack O’Connor’s child was rushed to Halifax Hospital on Wednesday after a series of seizures. Hospital staff then contacted authorities due to the extent of the injuries.

Doctors told police the injuries could only have come through abuse.

Vasquez and O’Connor told police that the child had fallen off of the bed, according to the police report.

Police said O’Connor later told them that he did not initially call 911 when he believed the child was having a seizure.

Instead, O’Connor took at DVD player to a Holly Hill pawn shop to sell the item, and then rode home on his bike. The pair then decided to call 911, police said.

O’Connor told police that he had a history of using cannabis and Xanex, as well as anger and depression issues.

According to a doctor at Arnold Palmer Hospital, where the child was moved to, the baby has a 50 percent chance of survival. If he does survive, a doctor told police, he would have severe neurological deficiencies.

The doctor said the baby’s injuries must have caused “inconsolable cryingâ€￾ and “forced him to act out in agony.â€￾

Normally, I would not post an article that was "just another baby beating story". I know, it's sad... but Hey! There really isn't much you can say with the amount of info given that hasn't been said a thousand times about these type of people.

But then I found his MySpace and a picture there reminded me of a variation of an old joke.

It seems Jack has his name tattooed on his back. This will come in very handy where he's going.

Very true, there isn't anything I can say that I haven't said before, but I still would like to say FUCKING ASSHOLES!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone noticed there's always a pattern in the injuries? It always involves ribs, legs and/or arms, and of course skull fractures.

What, is there a fucking trend going on that we demonites are missing? :banghead:

That pretty much includes all of the body. I don't think it's a trend - just what's available.

It's even more horrific to me when you realize that baby bones don't usually break as easily as old people bones. Once my daughter got her foot caught in a bike spoke. It was twisted totally backwards and upside down. Not even a fracture. I was beyond amazed. The doctor explained that kids' bones being less brittle than older kids/adults.

WTF are these people doing? I've seen my kids take major falls, grabbed them weirdly as they took tumbles, and all kinds of things happen that amazed me they didn't break something. What they are doing to babies has got to involve some massive force. How can they not know better and do better?

Jack O'Connor & Gladys Vasquez Allege Their Bed Abused The Baby

Baby's parents arrested after doctors find broken bones, brain injury
A Daytona Beach couple were arrested today after doctors found their 5-month-old son had a skull fracture, brain swelling, a healing leg fracture and eight broken ribs.
The boy and has a 50 percent of surviving — at best with extreme neurological impairment, a doctor said.

The baby was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach Wednesday with bruises on his head, neck, face, legs and torso, a police report states. He also had a broken femur — the thighbone — and ribs that were in various stages of healing, doctors told police.
The couple delayed calling 911 for more than 13 hours while they slept and the father bicycled to a pawnshop, investigators said.

Father Jack O'Connor, 21, and mother Gladys Vasquez, 22, told investigators the baby must have gotten hurt falling out of their bed, which is no more than 2 1/2 feet off the floor, according to the report. Doctors said the injuries couldn't have been caused by such a fall — only child abuse, a police report states.
O'Connor told detectives he is unemployed and the primary caregiver for his son. Vasquez works at a movie theater.
O'Connor also revealed that the state Department of Children and Families had previously investigated him because it was alleged that he took drugs while caring for the baby. A department spokesman said confidentiality laws prevent him from disclosing the result, although O'Connor admitted that he still smokes marijuana, the report says.
On Sunday, the baby fell out of bed face down near a DVD player, investigators said he told them. The child then drank formula, spit up and slept through the night, failing to wake up for his normal feeding at 3 and 6 a.m., the father told police.

On Monday morning, the baby had a seizure and his face was twitching, the father said. But instead of summoning medical help, O'Connor took the DVD player by bicycle to a pawnshop in Holly Hill, pawned the machine, then rode back to the apartment, according to the report. That was when he and Vasquez called 911.

O'Connor attributed the healing femur fracture to a fall off the couch several weeks ago, while his girlfriend said it must have happened when she picked the infant up to change his diaper, the report states. They never sought medical help, police said.

The baby's last visit to a doctor was in July. Nobody took him for a scheduled appointment on Sept. 13, officers said. One doctor said the injuries probably happened in the past two weeks. The doctor also told investigators that the baby would have been in extreme pain and wailing while he was being hurt. The child was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.
O'Connor and Vasquez were each arrested on a charge of aggravated child neglect causing great bodily harm and are being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail. The father told police that nobody other than he and his girlfriend had cared for the child.

That guys eyes say it all. He beat that baby, and that Bitch didn't want to lose him by telling on him. Fuck them.

He took the DVD to the pawn shop to get rid of evidence, I imagine. These POS are reprehensible. Even if this sweet child does not die, they should.

The parents of an infant who was so severely abused last year that he is unable to talk, walk or sit up have each pleaded no contest to a charge of principal to aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, the State Attorney's Office announced today.

Gladys Vasquez, 23, and Jack Ryan O'Connor, 22, will be sentenced Jan. 24 by Circuit Judge Frank Marriott, spokeswoman Klare Ly said. They are being held in the Volusia County Jail with bail set at $20,000 each.

According to an arrest affidavit:

O'Connor and Vasquez both told Daytona Beach police the baby – then 5 months old – was injured the evening of Oct. 12, 2010 when he fell off of a bed. O'Connor said he fed the baby and he slept through the night, but the next morning was having a seizure.

Before getting medical attention for the baby, O'Connor rode his bicycle to Holly Hill to pawn a DVD player. When he returned to his home he awoke Vasquez, his girlfriend, and they called 911.

Gladys Vasquez and Jack Ryan O’Connor sent to prison for 15 years (Volusia County Jail, Volusia County Jail / January 24, 2012)
Couldnt seperate the pics and wanted to post dads newest look
The parents of an infant who was so severely abused last year that he is unable to talk, walk or sit up were each sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison.

Circuit Judge Frank Marriott handed down the sentences to 24-year-old Gladys Vasquez and 23-year-old Jack Ryan O'Connor who pleaded no contest in November to a charge of principal to aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

The child suffered from skull fractures, swelling of the brain, bruises over his entire body, a leg fracture that appeared to be an older injury and eight fractured ribs in various stages of healing, according to court documents. Doctors told Daytona Beach police the injuries could only have been caused by "deliberate child abuse."

I suppose it's moot, but the child will not be an adult before they get out of prison. He may never grow up, though, I know. What a rotten situation. Fifteen years for this crime is paltry. They ruined his life as surely as if they killed him.
