Hope is the thing with feathers.
A Brooklyn mother has been arrested after her 3-month-old baby died while left unattended in the Brooklyn shelter where the family lives, police said Friday.
Genevieve Gonzalez, 28, is accused of leaving her infant daughter Annabelmarie and her 2-year-old daughter Isabelmarie home alone at the Bay Family Shelter on Emmons Ave. in Sheepshead Bay Thursday morning.
Sources said she called 911 after returning home about 7:40 a.m. and finding the baby not breathing.
Medics over the phone talked her through trying to revive Annabelmarie as first responders rushed to the apartment. EMTs took the baby to Coney Island Hospital, where she died at 7:57 a.m., sources said.
Gonzalez told cops that she had left the apartment briefly to take a neighbor’s child to the school bus stop, sources said.
Security video showed she walked to a local bodega and was away from the kids for about 25 minutes, sources said.
When she got back to the room, she was feeding her 2-year-old when she noticed the infant was unconscious on a bed surrounded with pillows and a blanket.
