Anthony and LaTasha Rybolt, also known as LaTasha Money, are each charged with child neglect with bodily injury in the incident. One of the husband’s children contacted police in April to report that his stepbrother attacked him while he was staying at his father’s and stepmother’s home, according to court records.
The victim told police his stepbrother strangled him, pointed a loaded black 9mm handgun at his stomach and told him, “I don’t need you anymore,” court documents say. The boy said his father and stepmother did nothing to stop the attack, saying, “Just don’t kill him,” to his stepbrother.
After breaking free, the victim, whose neck was visibly red and bruised, was able to call for help, court records show. Witnesses backed up his claims, describing him as crying and fearful after the alleged attack.
According to the affidavit, the minor told police that a week before the altercation, Rybolt and Money forced him to use his car to drive another child to St. Augustine, Florida, so that the child could hide in an unnamed person's home. The objective, police said, was to "evade an active [Child In Need of Services] warrant."
When the minor returned from making the trip, Rybolt and Money "demanded" that he give back his car keys so they could use it to continue evading law enforcement. When the victim refused, the stepbrother allegedly attacked him by "jump[ing] on top of him while he was lying on a bed and strangled him with both hands."
