Former NFL football player Cierre Wood was arrested Thursday in Las Vegas and is facing a murder charge.

He's accused of killing his girlfriend's daughter, 5-year-old La’Rayah Davis. The mother, Amy Taylor, is also facing a child abuse charge.

In court, the girl’s father, Danaun Davis, said he was devastated. He sat 20 feet from Wood, who he believes killed his daughter.

“You purposely hurt my kid. I never thought I’d bury my child at five years old,” Davis said. "I can't call her. I just talked to her that Monday before. ‘Dad, I'll see you in two weeks.’ The next day, I get a call that she's gone."

Davis said there were warning signs.

"Every time I picked her up the last few months, she was afraid to go home,” he said. “She kept telling me something was wrong."

On Tuesday night, police said La'Rayah was found unresponsive. An arrest report reveals she was taken to a hospital and found to have bruising to her torso, legs and abdomen.

Prosecutors said an autopsy revealed more injuries, including a “large liver laceration.”

In the end, Judge Ann Zimmerman decided to keep the former football player in jail, denying him bail.

News 3 has learned new disturbing details in the murder of a 5-year-old girl.

La’Rayah Davis died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Her mother, Amy Taylor, 26, is facing child abuse and neglect charges.

Taylor’s boyfriend, former NFL player Cierre Wood, 28, has been charged with murder.

It was revealed in court Friday that Taylor will likely also be charged with murder.

An arrest report obtained by News 3 revealed Wood forced the girl to exercise at home as punishment because he thought the girl was overweight.

Police said Wood would “make her run sprints in the apartment, do sit-ups and wall squats.”

Wood told police that he was “trying to get her on the right path due to her being chunky.”

An autopsy revealed the extent of the child’s injuries. The Clark County Coroner’s report said the girl had “multiple rib fractures.”

The report also said that “the age of the rib fractures is unknown” and “liver laceration was the probable cause of her demise.”

Police said the girl's mother once sat on her chest and stomach as a form of punishment.

The autopsy revealed the girl’s “skull had multiple contusions.”

Indicted on Tuesday (yesterday). Arraignment is July 2. Wood's lawyer said he'll plea not guilty.

"Autopsy findings revealed the girl had 20 newly broken ribs, internal bleeding, a lacerated liver and bruises to her heart, diaphragm and connective tissue. "

A former professional football player was sentenced Tuesday to prison in the April 2019 death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter at his Las Vegas apartment.
The sentencing came after Cierre Wood, a former NFL and Canadian Football league running back, reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty in April to second-degree murder and felony child abuse, court records show.

Wood, 33, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years for the murder charge. Clark County District Court Judge Jacqueline Bluth also ordered him to serve between 28 months and six years for the child abuse charge. He must serve the sentences consecutively.

According to a copy of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed the remaining felony counts of child abuse that they initially had filed against Wood. He entered what is known as an Alford plea, a formal admission of guilt in criminal court that allows a defendant to still claim innocence.
Court records show that the child's mother, Amy Taylor, 31, also pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree murder and felony child abuse as part of a deal with prosecutors.

The coroner's office in Las Vegas said the child, La’Rayah Davis, died on April 9, 2019, of blunt force injuries.

Life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 10 years. His possible release from prison in as little as 10 years is a despicable idea to entertain. He needs to stay there.
